Tia Juana Restaurant - 2327 N. Grand

Menu: steaks chops chicken salad

February 2009

I grew up in Enid and had fond memories of the grandfather taking our family out to eat at the Tia Juana on Sunday after church, which all come back to me on my most recent trip back to Enid. Understand, this was not my first trip back to Enid (it has been over 35 years since I moved away), actually I have been back over 20 times; however, this is my first time back to the Tia Juana. Yes, the Tia Juana is still there. It has been in the same location since 1948 and still based on outward appearance looks like a dive. This is where looks can be deceiving. My wife and I decided to try the Tia Juana (it was here first trip) after all this time to see if it was as good as I rememered. We went for lunch and had the chicken fried steak. Simply put, this is one of the best chicken fried steak we have ever eaten. We were telling her father about the Tia Juana and he asked if we wanted to go back and try the real steak. That night we ordered three medium sized T-Bones for about $18.00 per person. We all agreed that this was definitely the best steak in Enid and as far as that goes in Oklahoma. The steak was very tender and was had excellent taste. We will definitely go back to the Tia Juana on our next trip back to Enid. I can’t wait.

2 July 2009

I would like to thank enidbuzz.com for the great website.  Along with that I would like to submit a review for one of the restaurants you have listed. The following review is for Costello’s Continental Cuisine in Enid, OK..  The modest plaza in which Costello’s is located is no reflection on what is inside.  What a great surprise!  The atmosphere is fabulous.  I never expected the cozy yet sophisticated interior.

We were warmly greeted and promptly seated.  We were then greeted by Matt the server for our table.  Matt made superb recommendations which in turn made our selection from a succulent menu easier.  Matt continued to spoil us with impeccable service. We had the Salmon Costello and the 6 oz filet, all of which were great.  The grand finale was the coconut cream pie.  It was as good as Grandma’s!

To sum it up, Costello’s Continental Cuisine is a little piece of heaven tucked in a modest corner of Enid.

Blessings,

Matt Dickerson

I would like to submit a review for Costello's, I ate here this evening and people who are looking for a decent place to Enid need to know about this place!

I’m visiting Enid for the week and drove around for over an hour looking for somewhere to eat on my first night and found nothing. I’m not much for eating in chain restaurants or buffets. I was recommended to go to Costellos. As soon as I walked in I knew it was the place for me. My server was Valerie and I must say she gave the best service that I have had in a long time. I had a hard time picking something off the menu. I settled for the coconut shrimp for my entrée. I got a Caesar salad, and was extremely impressed with the homemade dressing and large chunks of parmesan. This place doesn’t spare any expense when it comes to quality. The shrimp was huge and cooked perfectly, as well as the potatoes and green beans . There was a great selection of seafood and steaks. The appetizer list looked awesome from a baked brie, to stuffed mushroom cap. Between the quality of the food and the service, I highly recommend this place to people who would rather dine with good food as opposed to the chain restaurants or pubs.

Thanks

Edmund and Catherine Costello opened the doors of Costello’s Continental Cuisine on December 28th in the Sunset Plaza shopping center. My husband, Wess, and I had the pleasure of “sneak preview” on December 27.

In the past, we have enjoyed many wonderful meals prepared by Chef Costello at the Oakwood Country Club, and we were anticipating great food and a fun atmosphere at Costello’s. We were not disappointed! The interior of the former Godfather’s Pizza location has been remodeled in warm, inviting tones, and the fireplace that remains adds to the atmosphere. Our server was friendly and attentive.

The menu features steaks, seafood, poultry and pasta, all served with inventive and tasty sauces. Wess chose Grilled Duck with a California Mission Fig Sauce, and I selected the Chef’s Favorite Steak Laredo (medallions of tenderloin, sautéed red peppers, roasted poblano chilies and red onion in a spicy white wine sauce.) Both were beautifully presented, generous portions and delicious. A side salad, roasted garlic rosemary new potatoes and vegetable accompanied each.

Although we did not order an appetizer, there were several tempting offerings, including Mushrooms Costello (crab stuffed mushrooms topped with melted port wine cheese) and a Blue Cheese Souffle (baked soufflé nestled upon a pecan crust and garnished with a red grape sauce). Desserts are a fresh apple dumpling, chocolate torte or daily cheesecake selection.

The entrees are priced from $6.95 to $19.95. Costello’s is also open for lunch with a menu of soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches.

10 September 2008

Day three in Enid proved to be another successful day for food! I was recommend to try Port Lugano, I had originally passed it up the first night I was here, but don’t always judge a book by its cover.
It is a little small inside but the décor is very nice and it’s a very clean place. I was told to try the poached tuna salad. This is no ordinary tuna sandwich. It is actually fresh tuna that is cooked and accented with a nice dill dressing. It is accompanied but two types of bread to put the tuna on. They have a selection of homemade soups and all looked extremely inviting. I decided to go with the roasted red pepper and it was not a disappointment. Next time I’ll try the tomato basil as this comes highly recommended.  I also recommend the vanilla latte, as it was one of the best I have had ever. My meal was accompanied by some fresh fruit and a chocolate covered strawberry. I was impressed by the friendly staff and atmosphere. I absolutely recommend Port Lugano for lunch and will be going back again before the end of my stay in Enid,

Thanks
Diana

It may look small with no place to sit but there always seems to be a seat open when you visit Port Lugano. This quaint little restaurant is a must stop if you are coming to Enid. They serve great sandwiches on croissants and include a chocolate covered strawberry with every one.

The salads and pastas are fresh and the desserts are some of the best in Enid. We love the apple strudel.

Not open for dinner.

MAP DIRECTIONS
Main Phone: (580) 242-7299
Cuisine: Irish Pub
Menu: Burgers, Sandwiches, Meat pies, Fish'n Chips Looking for a fun pub to grab a drink and a hot meal? Callahan's is the place.

We've been doing lunch at Callahan's for quite a while now and I have to review the awesome Pulled Pork Sandwich that they serve up. This great sandwich comes with plenty of pork, BBQ sauce and my favorite part - the jalapeno relish! And get it with the tasty steak fries.

I also have to mention that the burgers are fantastic and the chicken nachos make a great meal.

Great service, plenty of TV's and a fun atmosphere. Eat inside or out with a nice section away from the bar. Sit in a booth or at one of the high round tables and order one of their many appetizers.

Maybe the best place in town to find a wide selection of unique beers.

Although we can't take the kids and from time to time have to deal with the smoke we highly recommend you spend a lunch or dinner at Callahan's!

Full menu of authentic Mexican food. We had the lunch special which was a huge plate of delicious Mexican enchiladas covered with cheese, lettuce and sour cream, rice, and beans. They have a great salsa bar to spice up your meal if you wish. The restaurant was full of patrons and seems to be a favorite of the downtown lunch crowd. The prices will not empty your wallet so go and have nice Mexican dinner.

Pastimes may be one of Enid's best kept secrets on those crowded Frday and Saturday nights. You can normally get in quick and have a great family meal.

The atmosphere and decor is unique to Enid and the all brick structure with round brick inside windows makes this a special, one of a kind, restaurant. If you miss eating downtown, you won't be disappointed by a visit to Pastimes.

Stop by with friends for drinks in the sports bar area or bring the whole family for a nice sit down dinner. We love the appetizers and I would highly recommend the meatloaf sandwich. Great portions, affordable and something for even the pickiest of eaters.

We hadn't been to Lenox Drive-in for a long time until today and we had the BEST hamburger we have had in years.  Their large cheeseburgers are almost too much to eat and the ones we got were less than $3.00!!!!! They have lots of different choices for your burgers (double meat, etc) and even have a nice kids menu.

You can get a medium drink for less than a dollar and for the ice lovers, they have tiny ice crunchies.  They also have great french fries.  So the next time you are in the mood for a really delicious hamburger, soda and fries drive on over to the Lenox and enjoy!!

Wow! Everyone kept telling us about the fillet at the Sidewalk. We had been told it was the best steak many people had ever had but we chalked that up to exaggeration.

Well, last night we dropped by the Sidewalk to see what all of the hype was about. The first thing we noticed was that many of the tables were reserved and we had no reservation. Luckily it was a cold, snowy evening and there were tables available for immediate seating. The atmosphere was great and the restaurant was filled with couples and families.

The service was fast and friendly. The steaks were not listed on the menu but our server informed us of our steak selection. Of course we ordered the fillet. Our meal began with a glass of white wine and a great tasting salad. Soon after, our steaks arrived along with the seasoned new potatoes. We had declined the other assorted vegetables that were included.

I'm not exactly sure how to describe the steak. It was like two steaks on top of each other but hinged on one edge. However it was put togther, it was a great looking fillet. Our steaks were cooked exactly as we had requested. The flavor was awesome and these steaks could easily have been eaten without a knife, they were so tender.

I have to say, if you want a steak in Enid, Oklahoma, I highly recommend a visit to the Sidewalk Bar and Grill.

Freddy's Frozen Custard
- 624 W. Garriott Road
MAP DIRECTIONS
Main Phone: 234-1514
Menu: frozen custard steakburgers hot dogs chicken sandwiches chicken strips chili onion rings french fries assorted drinks kids menu

We ate at Freddy's the day it opened. We even got to meet Freddy, the man that started it all. Being as it was opening day we were prepared for anything. What we got was a great burger and fun atmosphere.

The Freddy's steakburger, California style, was awesome. It was a thin patty that hung well over the edges of the toasted bun. The flavor was great and the only thing we recommend is that you get a double patty if you are hungry at all. The fries on the combo meal were well seasoned and "true" shoestring style. You won't find any thinner than these.

We enjoyed the self serve drink section and the great retro decor. We finished our meal with a single dip of chocolate frozen custard with sprinkles. The first thing we noticed was that the gourmet ice cream was not as cold as regular ice cream, which meant we could shovel more into our mouths at a higher rate of speed.

Enid Buzz

Update: We tried the Freddy's drive-thru for an ice cream run. The line moved smoothly and quickly. They had not recieved one of the ingredients for the Concrete, listed on the menu and apologized. Using a debit card at the window we were soon on the road ready to eat frozen custard. Once we arrived at home we discovered two ingredients missing from one Concrete. Otherwise the Concretes were delicious.
