RadioShack Looks To Be Closing

ENID, OK - RadioShack opened its first Oklahoma concept store in Enid on Saturday, November 2, 2013. RadioShack has been in Enid since 1984 when it opened in Oakwood Mall.  The store relocated to the Nielson Square Shopping Center at 3426 W Owen K Garriott, next to Staples.

RadioShack opened a select number of these highly experiential stores in neighborhoods throughout the nation. The Enid location was one of a dozen concept stores to open since the company began converting to such stores. The new stores reflected the company's strides toward reinvigorating its stores, revamping its product assortment and repositioning the brand.

The company ran into trouble again in 2015 and filed for bankruptcy. In a statement, RadioShack President and Chief Executive Officer Dene Rogers said since that bankruptcy filing in 2015, the retailer had made progress in stabilizing operations, reducing operating expenses by 23 percent.

A recent partnership with wireless carrier Sprint proved not to be as profitable as expected. That along with other reasons prompted another bankruptcy filing last week in Delaware. General Wireless, part of hedge fund Standard General, acquired the RadioShack trademark and many of its stores after its 2015 bankruptcy. They filed the papers d.b.a. RadioShack.

The company announced it would be closing 552 of its stores in this latest filing. Those closures will affect 36% of the chain's stores. A list of stores to close was published on Friday.

Although the Enid, Oklahoma location was not on the list it appears the store is preparing to close. They have removed all Sprint equipment and currently have everything in store on sale. An employee told one of our readers that the store would be closing in the next 60 days. We have not confirmed that statement.
