NOC Enid Open House Sept. 18

ENID, OK - Northern Oklahoma College is celebrating 20 years in Enid with an Open House Tuesday, Sept. 18 at noon on the NOC Enid campus.
Festivities include a cook-out near the Everest Administration Building, campus tours, planetarium shows, and give-a-ways.

NOC celebrated the retirement of bonds last May used to purchase the former Phillips University campus in 1999. The bonds are paying off one full year early as NOC refinanced in 2013 to save funds.

The bond payoff kicked off a year of celebration for NOC Enid’s 20th year.

“Community leaders and City of Enid administrators saw the need for access to affordable public higher education options and were proactive seeking out Northern Oklahoma College to fill a gap,” said NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans of the partnership between NOC and community leaders. “Dr. Kinzer’s vision to have a full campus experience for students with athletics, housing, and student activities in Enid was a real turning point in NOC’s mission. Northern had a hard working team of employees who rolled up their sleeves to get the campus up and running its first year and many of them serve the college today.”
-
“It’s amazing to see how the campus has evolved and become established over the last couple of decades,” Dr. Evans added. “It is fulfilling especially this time of year right after commencement to see the hundreds of graduates who had the opportunity to complete a college degree locally through Northern. We talk about how NOC strives to provide “Life Changing” experiences for our students and there are thousands of lives that have been enhanced because of their choice to attend NOC. This past year, over 58 percent of those enrolled will be among the first in their families to complete a college degree opening the doors to employment that others in their family didn’t have access to because they didn’t have the degree needed to increase their earning power in certain fields.”
-
“The college has benefited from strong support from local leaders like Bert Mackie, Dan Dillingham, along with others who helped establish the NOC Enid and have continued through the years providing support through advocacy and resources,” she added.
-
To purchase the former Phillips University campus, NOC formed a partnership with the Enid Economic Development Authority and submitted a bid of $5.3 million bid in April 1999.
-
NOC provided $3.8 million toward the transaction while the Enid Economic Development Authority provided $1.5 million for the Phillips University assets.
Events are planned throughout the academic year. The next event is a Bonnie & Clyde Presentation by NOC instructor Troy Cochran on Nov. 12.
