“We are very pleased that Mr. Jon Mitchell will be our next principal at Longfellow Middle School,” Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd said. “I believe that Mr. Mitchell’s set of administrative skills and abilities will be an excellent fit for Longfellow, and I look forward to him successfully serving in that role for the next several years.”

According to Doug Stafford, Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools, Mitchell’s experience made him the perfect choice to take the helm of Longfellow, which is home to 570 students.

“Mr. Mitchell’s successful leadership and commitment to EPS make him a great candidate to carry on the traditions of Longfellow’s past and to strategically lead the school into the future as it continues to evolve and thrive,” Stafford said.

As an assistant principal, Mitchell has assisted with responsibilities ranging from curriculum planning to construction management. He said he is excited to return to work with middle school students.
-
“This is a tremendous opportunity,” Mitchell said. “I love this school district, and I am honored that I have been selected to serve Longfellow’s students, staff and community. I will ensure that it continues to be a school for which we can all be proud, and I hope to elevate its success to the next level. Its students deserve the very best, and I look forward to being a Longfellow Mustang.”

Mitchell earned his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Oklahoma State University and his Masters of Education in School Administration from Northeastern State University. He holds the following Oklahoma education certifications: principal, superintendent, American history, anthropology, drivers’ education, earth science, economics, geography, Oklahoma history, sociology, and world history.
