Marcy Jarrett Completes Leadership Arts Program

Visit Enid director Jarrett graduates from Oklahoma Arts Council leadership program

Marcy JarrettMarcy Jarrett, director of Visit Enid, recently completed the 2013 Leadership Arts program from the Oklahoma Arts Council. The graduation ceremony was Oct. 22-23 as part of the Oklahoma Arts Conference in Ardmore.

Since 2008, the Leadership Arts program has equipped artists, arts managers, community and economic development professionals, civic leaders, educators and others statewide to be arts leaders and advocates. Jarrett and 31 other individuals from 22 Oklahoma communities were selected from a qualified list of applicants and received in-depth instruction on how to use local arts and cultural resources for economic development, improved education and enhanced quality of life.

“Being selected to participate in the Leadership Arts program was quite an honor,” Jarrett said. “Enid has a very strong arts community, and Leadership Arts was a tremendous opportunity to not only learn all the ways the arts contributes to Oklahoma’s quality of life and its economy but also to share with my classmates the excitement currently surrounding Enid and how our arts community is playing a vital part in that excitement.”

Jarrett attended four two-day sessions in the spring of 2013 at the Quartz Mountain Resort and Arts Conference Center near Lone Wolf, the Coleman Theatre in Miami, the Forest Heritage Center and the Red River Museum near Broken Bow, and Oklahoma City.

Jarrett is the 10th person from Enid to graduate from Leadership Arts and the first since 2010. She joins Julie Baird, Lindy Chambers, Steve Glazier, Cynthia Heng, Mike Klemme, Traci Layton (Harrison), Lisa Powell, and Sara and Shane Scribner as Enid graduates of the program.

The Oklahoma Arts Council is the official state agency for the support and development of the arts. The Council’s mission is to lead, cultivate and support a thriving arts environment, which is essential to quality of life, education and economic vitality for all Oklahomans.

Enid will play host to a Leadership Arts session on April 23-24, 2014.
