Kenneth Howard Petersen

A graveside service for Kenneth Howard Petersen, age 90, of Enid, is 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Vernon Lee officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Kenneth was born October 16, 1927 in Enid to Howard and Alice (Bolenbaugh) Petersen, and passed away peacefully Saturday, March 17, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Kenneth married the love of his life, Joan Nichols, June 1, 1947, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage, prior to her passing on July 18, 2012. He retired from George E. Failings in 1991 after 45 years of dedicated service. He and Joan were members of Central Christian Church. Kenneth was active in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. He took pride in watching them at their various sporting events, traveling to many games. He took his grandchildren on numerous fishing adventures to Lake Texoma, Roman Nose, and many area lakes.

Kenneth enjoyed his beautiful yard and was passionate about his flower gardens and watching the birds at his feeders. He also was an avid sports fan and watched OSU and OU sports as well as Thunder Basketball. He was a long-time season ticket holder for Enid Plainsman athletics.

Kenneth and Joan spoiled their children and enriched their lives with the love of God, love of family, and encouraged them to do their best, to have a positive attitude, and to be thankful for all God’s blessings.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Alice Petersen; and his wife Joan Petersen.

Those left to cherish Kenneth’s memory are his children, daughter Susan Kemph and husband Jerry, of Enid; son, Terry Petersen and wife Margaret, of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren, Ryan Kemph and wife Penny, of Fort Supply, Oklahoma; Tyler Kemph and wife Jennifer, of Altus, Oklahoma; Jared Kemph and wife Amanda, of Enid, Oklahoma; Allison Petersen and fiancé Josh, of Beaverton, Oregon; Meredith Lococo and husband Johnny, of San Diego, California; and seven great-grandchildren, that he adored. He also leaves a brother, DeWayne Petersen, of Missouri; sister, Beverly, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Memorials in Kenneth’s name may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Heart Division with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
