Jewell Marie Dixon Hayes

The services celebrating and honoring the life of Jewell Marie Dixon Hayes, 79, of Enid will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday February 26, 2019 in the Garland Road Baptist Church with Billy Benson officiating. Burial will follow in the Del Norte Cemetery near Drummond. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

She was born April 8, 1939 on a farm near Meno, Oklahoma to William Emmett and Elsie Fern Lozier Dixon and passed from this life February 23, 2019 in her home with her family by her side. She was raised and educated in Ames attended Ames Public Schools graduating in 1957. She was active in basketball, FHA, school plays, and other school actives. After graduating high school, she attended NWOSU in Alva, Oklahoma for a short time, and then went to work at Liberty Federal Savings and Loan in Enid.

On January 24, 1959 she married Frederick L. Hays in the Ames Christian Church. To this union three children were born: Bryan Lee Hayes, Bartley Alan Hayes, and Brenda Gae Hayes.

In 1978 Jewell professed her faith in Jesus Christ, joined and was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Drummond where she taught Sunday School for many years and served on various committees. After the Baptist Church closed, she joined the Salem United Methodist Church in Drummond. Jewell moved to Enid in 2014 and started attending Garland Road Baptist Church where she joined in May 2018.

After her children were grown, she attended Autry Technology Center for two years and was employed by them for the next seventeen years retiring in 2004.

Surviving are her son Bartley Hayes and wife Robyn of Drummond Oklahoma, daughter Brenda Sherbourne and husband Bryan of Ada Oklahoma, daughter-in-law Deborah Hayes of Fort Worth, Texas, grandchildren Ronnie Hayes, Jennifer Hayes, Dylan Walling, Erin Walling, Haley Rasp, Megan Godfrey and husband Cody, great grandchildren Taylor Maxie and Kaiden Hayes, nephews Jeff Baker, Robin Moulton and wife Deann, Kevin Hayes, Jeff Hayes, nieces Doneta Hayes and husband Michael, Sheri Barnes and husband Alan, adopted granddaughter Brittany Van Meter and husband Brandon, adopted great grandchildren Preston, Corbin, and Everly Van Meter.

Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, son Bryan, sisters June Lily Dixon and Phyllis Baker.

Memorial to Garland Road Baptist Church Youth Ministry or Hospice Circle of Love, with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
