Enid will be electing a new Mayor and several city ward commissioners. This is the time to let your voices be heard. Please educate yourself on the candidates by asking questions, watching the public forums and knowing the facts. Enid is on the verge of doing some great things and with the right people can move forward more than we ever have before.
Enid could also find itself stuck in a rut worried about the little things with no vision to grow. It’s time Enid picked itself up and moved forward with big imaginative ideas. No company, no city, no one person is going to come along and save Enid from falling off the map. Enid is going to have to pick itself up with the help of its citizens. Cities like Stillwater, Yukon, Edmond and Guthrie are finding their grooves and are growing like mad. There are a million excuses as to why Enid is not following suit. Let’s stop pickering over the small stuff and join together for something bigger.
Enid needs a vision and a group of concerned citizens to carry it out. Let’s get out and elect the right people to do the job. Let’s stop complaining about what we don’t have and find ways of getting what we want. We are electing these people to get that job done for us. These candidates will be the ones to bring us what this town has been lacking. They will be deciding how things are done and how money is spent.
Let’s elect a group of people that will bring us more great city services or even improved city services. Let’s elect a group of people that see a vision for Enid and will try to bring in something as simple as a decent movie theater, more city wide events, unique businesses not found in any other town, larger companies that will bring in more employees and new dollars. Enid and many other cities are sitting on the edge of expansion. The ones that do it right will grow and prosper, the ones that sit on their hands will suffer and may find themselves so far behind the others that they will never catch up.
Enid has four men willing to lead us into the future as mayor: Bill Shewey, Paul Spoonemore, Loyd Kaufman and David Burrows. If you saw the public forums you know where each of these candidates stands on many of the issues and also what each has planned for our future. If you have questions, please find these men and have your concerns answered before voting tomorrow.
Ward 1 candidates are: Rick Childs, Ron Janzen and Rodney Olson. A fourth, Larry Horany, will appear on the ballot, but withdrew from the race.
Ward 2 candidates are: Mike Stuber, Randall Oswald and Jerry Galbreath.
Ward 5 candidates are: Larry Brummal and Tammy Wilson.
All registered voters in Enid will be voting for mayor, while only those people in Wards 1, 2 and 5 can vote in their respective areas.
Are you going to sit around and complain about potholes or are you going to get out and vote for a better Enid? Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
