Frances “Fran” or “Betty” Bowman was born October 21, 1926 near Isabella, OK to William and Margaret (Mildfelt) Westfahl, and died on the evening of November 7, 2018 in Enid, OK. Frances grew up in a large family, and lived near Okeene, OK. She attended Okeene High School where she learned and loved to play basketball, most known for her hook shot. She married Charles William Bowman on December 8, 1941 and lived near Ames, OK, in a home they built themselves, they were married 50 years. She operated and owned a beauty shop out of her home. She loved watching wildlife near her home, and frequently purchased grain to feed multiple deer, turkey, and other wildlife, just beyond her front porch. Besides being a beautician, Frances also worked by milking cows, hanging wallpaper and it wasn’t uncommon for her to cook for large numbers of guests and friends in their home. Her holiday feasts were second to none. She and Charles often opened up their home to friends and family, to live with them, and or work for them. They extended their family in this way. Frances also found great joy in pastimes that included watching her daughters sing and play the piano, play basketball and win the state basketball tournament, and nearly any football or basketball game, especially during March Madness. If you entered her home, at nearly any time, you could hear her cheering loudly for her OU Sooners, OSU Cowboys, and of course, her OKC Thunder.

Although she had many jobs, one of her favorite things to do was paint and to teach painting. Frances was an artist, often attending art shows and providing art classes around the state. She completed numerous paintings, most typically creating displays of wildlife, nature, florals, and occasionally, portraits.
Frances moved to Enid nine years ago to be closer to her family and doctors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles and their infant son; her sister, Norene Moore, and brothers Kenny and Clarence Westfahl.

She is survived by her two daughters, Frances “Bunny” Edwards and husband Jim of Enid; and Charlene “Becky” Classen and husband, Allan, of Liberal, KS; three sisters, Mary Ellen Turner and Billie Marcoux of Enid; and Doris Dean, of OKC, OK.
