A Fling at the Springs Music Festival Celebrates 20 Years

ENID, OK - A Fling at the Springs annual music festival will celebrate its twentieth year on Saturday, September 30th. The all day family friendly festival begins at 2:00 p.m. at Government Springs Park in Enid.

This year's lineup features Tania Warnock, Scott Carson, Nikki & Kody, Dan Martin, Gannon Freemin & CC Rev, BC & The Big Rig, and Rachel Stacy, with lights and sound provided by Michael Magnum.

A Fling at the Springs was created by Sylvan Reynolds 20 years ago as a fundraiser for the Government Springs Park. Over the years it was produced by Reynolds and a handful of volunteers and recently became a non-profit organization whose focus is supporting and encouraging live music and the arts. The organization is governed by a small board consisting of Tammy Wilson, Michael Dotson, Shawn Mahaffey, Travis Layton, and Larry Lewis. The festival is funded through sponsorships and donations from the community.

A Fling at the Springs has hosted some of Oklahoma's up and coming musicians as well as some of the state's most prolific musicians and songwriters, including Bob Childers and Tom Skinner, both considered to be godfathers of the Oklahoma Red Dirt music scene. Several of the younger participants that grew up preforming at the Fling are now touring musicians. "We all have a great amount of pride in the talent that has graced our stage and our hope is to encourage the community to support live music any time they can," said Tammy Wilson, Fling board member. "We're honored to be able to carry on what Sylvan created and hope to continue the festival for years to come."

As part of their mission, they have created the David McCoy Memorial Scholarship that will be awarded to a local music student. McCoy was a lifelong Enid musician, sound technician, and friend to Enid's music community. This is the first year the scholarship will be awarded.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and stay for the day. Crazy Plate food truck will be on site and The Alibi bar will will have beer available for purchase as well. Coolers are allowed, but may not contain glass. For more information, visit the A Fling at the Springs Facebook page.

A Fling at the Springs was founded and organized by Enid resident Sylvan Reynolds in 2003 and he ran it until 2018. He was joined in 2010 by Enid Event Company owner Tammy Wilson and she and Dotson have been organizing the festival together for the last two years. "We felt like it was an important tradition to continue in Enid," Wilson said. "Oklahoma has a huge pool of talent and we believe supporting it is imperative."
