Enid Public Schools and Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid invite students, parents and community members to join them next week as they celebrate the groundbreaking of the EPS/NWOSU Early Childhood Center.

The event will be November 15 at 1:30 at the NWOSU-Enid campus, located at 2929 E. Randolph Avenue. The program will be in the university’s boardroom or in its south parking lot, depending on the weather.

The project, part of the district’s $92.8 million bond program, was approved by Enid voters in February 2016. The new facility will house four early childhood classrooms, as well as a commons area for group activities. It has been uniquely designed to accommodate students pursuing a degree in early childhood education, and other related fields of study, by allowing them to observe pre-kindergarten classes from inside and outside of the classroom.

EPS currently has one pre-kindergarten class located inside the NWOSU-Enid building.

“We are very proud of this collaboration with NWOSU-Enid, and we are thrilled to be sharing this event with the Enid community,” Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd said. “This would not have been possible without their support of the 2016 bond program. With this new facility, we look forward to continuing our tradition of quality early childhood education, while also allowing future teachers to have an even better hands-on learning experience as they prepare for the classroom.”

Dr. Wayne McMillin, Dean of the NWOSU-Enid campus, concurred that the project is win-win for both organizations and those they serve. He said the opportunity has been discussed for many years, and that he is extremely happy to see it coming to fruition.

“I can’t describe how exciting this is for the Northwestern community. This classroom building will represent the educational process from beginning to end. We will have little ones learning and growing in an enriched educational facility, and on the other end, potential teachers working directly with these children to hone their teaching abilities,” McMillin said. “We’ve always had great collaboration with Enid Public Schools, and this is yet another great step forward in forging the true potential of our partnership. This will impact the face of education in Enid for years to come. “
