Enid Chautauqua in the Park : Chautauqua Council of Enid is a non-profit group that raises funds and applies for grants to sponsor a winter and summer Chautauqua event in Enid. Before modern media, a Chautauqua was a traveling show that had elements of historical performance, entertainment, political debate, and social engagement. Today, the modern Chautauqua consists of historians/actors portraying characters from a certain era. It’s a way to experience history live and in person. There are seminars/workshops in the morning, brief musical entertainment or other performer scheduled in the early evening with refreshments being sold, and then the main performance by the “character” with time for questions and audience interaction. The local schedule of events is on their FaceBook page.
