Enid's Sales Tax To Increase Jan. 1

ENID, Okla. - Enid’s current sales tax is 8.350% but due to the August proposition to fund the Kaw Lake pipeline, it will rise to 9.100% on January 1. Enid residents currently pay 4.500% to the State of Oklahoma, .350% to Garfield County and 3.500% to the City of Enid. So, the actual increase to the Enid sales tax will be .750% or .75¢ on every $100.00.

The City's sales tax will increase to 4.25% on January 1. 2% goes directly to the general fund for operating revenue. The Enid Municipal Authority receives 1%, the Kaw Lake project will get 0.75%, public safety gets 0.25% and 0.25% is allocated to EMA school bond.

Both the three quarters of one percent tax and the one quarter of one percent tax will terminate after March 31, 2052.
-

Am I right that this State Question No.779 states that 69-1/2% of these monies will be apportioned among all the several common school districts of the State and it further states that 86.33% of the additional funds provided will be used to increase teacher salaries and otherwise address and prevent teachers and certified instructional staff shortages…………………

Further statements say these will not supplant other education funding. Since this will be a state question, if it passes, it guarantees teacher salaries will be increased at least $5000 greater than listed the most recent year.

Since this will be a State law, does it not ensure teachers will benefit from its passage and results as those from lottery monies will be unlawful?

10% sales tax? that is insane…..will drive away your new families and those on fixed incomes for sure! I am sure OK will remain taxing food unlike some of the neighboring states…shame…..

I would take Enid sale taxs over our high tax for such a small town!! Our tax is 9.8% right now until
It goes to 10% in January. I wish people will stop complaining!! Other states is much high then Oklahoma.
