Library Grand Re-Opening Reception Set for December 8th

The Public Library of Enid and Garfield County will host a reception on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. to celebrate their Makeover and Grand Re-Opening.  Chamber Ambassadors will be on hand at 4:30 p.m. for the ribbon cutting and all the library staff will be out to meet and mingle from 4:45 to 5:30.  Refreshments will be provided, catered by Pane Vino Restaurant.  Everyone is welcome to come and go during the reception.

Michelle Mears, Library Director, believes that the transformation of the library interior is the first step in getting people to rethink what the public library can offer.  “Patrons are coming in and telling us how great everything looks and how comfortable they feel.  The kids love the bright colors and the open entry area.  If you haven’t been in for a while, it’ll knock your socks off.”

The makeover project was made possible by a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and matching funds from the City of Enid.  The 18-month project included renovating the entry flooring, painting walls, installing lighting, and purchasing new furnishings.  The focus of the project was to create a welcoming and interesting space that is less like a traditional library.  The library continues to work on shifting service areas so navigating the library is easier.  The next area of focus with be on the children and teen areas, with possibly some work on the library landscaping in the spring.  “Library improvements take time, but we’re in it for the long haul,” Mears commented.  “Our ultimate goal is to become the best city library in Oklahoma.
