Enid , OK - Enid Plainsman junior Mason Skrimager has plenty to be excited about this season. As the starting quarterback on an offense that returns plenty of talent, Skrimager is ready to lead this group into battle.
-
“We will have a high tempo offense and a strong defense. We have Lincoln Sefcik at receiver who had a great off season and gained a lot of muscle, he will make a big impact on our offense. Will Phillips our star running back and great defensive back is coming back stronger, faster and better than ever and will have a great line blocking for him this year. Austin Whitehead, the center. Austin is a big guy and a great leader on and off the field, I wouldn't want any other guy blocking for me because he makes the other guys better too. These guys are fun to watch,” said Skrimager.
-
At the age of eight Skrimager started his playing career for an EJRT team named the Titans. That team set Skrimager on a path to become the starting quarterback for the Plainsman at the varsity level and he knows those young eyes are watching every move he makes.
-
“I would tell kids to be coachable and have a good attitude in everything they do. They will be so much more successful if they are coachable and always have a good attitude,” said Skrimager.
-
Being a leader comes natural for Skrimager and it’s a job he takes very serious.
-
“It means a lot to me to be able to lead a group of guys into a battle knowing they have my back and they know I have theirs. Being a leader to me means always doing the right thing and to push my team to be the best they can possibly be and to let them know when things get tough, follow me and we will overcome it,” said Skrimager.
-
The three-sport athlete also understands the importance of displaying good sportsmanship whether he’s on the gridiron, the diamond or the court.
-
“Sportsmanship is very important! Having bad sportsmanship to the refs and to the players on the other team reflects what kind of man you are and your character. No one wants to see a player throw a fit or act a fool on the football field by their actions; it looks bad on them and could give them a bad reputation,” said Skrimager.
-
One game on the schedule Skrimager and the Plainsman are looking forward to playing is Stillwater.
-
“I can't wait to play Stillwater. They are a tough team and I want to show them our team is tougher!”
