ENID, OK - Enid Public Schools invited students, parents and community members to join district officials on Wednesday, November 15 as they celebrate the groundbreaking of Enid High School’s new competitive gymnasium and performing arts center.
-
The event took place in the parking lot between the school’s University Center and Food Court, located at 611 W. Wabash. The fire department was on hand with their extension ladder which displayed a large American flag.
-
The EHS band played while cheerleaders and the pom squad performed before the ceremony started. Student athletes were on hand for the celebration as were many local residents and EHS alumni.
-
The EHS Junior Air Force ROTC was on hand for the Presentation of Colors and the EHS Select Choir sang the National Anthem.
-
Several speakers talked about the need for the project including Carol Jarrett, EHS Speech & Drama Student and Austin Whitehead, EHS Student Athlete.
-
The project, part of the district’s $92.8 million bond program, was approved by Enid voters in February 2016.
-
“We are extremely excited to share this day with the Enid community,” Dr. Darrell Floyd, Superintendent, said. “This would not have been possible without their support. With this groundbreaking, we will be one step closer to a first-class facility that will make a difference for students in the near future and for many years to come. Thank you, again, to Enid residents for supporting our schools and our students.”
-
In addition to housing new classrooms, the 100,000-square foot addition will feature a 2,000-seat arena (2,500 seats with the floor), as well as the locker rooms, offices and other accommodations needed for basketball, wrestling, volleyball, cheerleading and pom. The facility, which will include a black-box theatre, also will provide newly constructed and outfitted space for band, chorus, orchestra, guitar, media productions and speech and drama.
-
The facility, designed by MA+ Architecture, is slated for completion by the fall of 2019. To see a video rendering of the project, please visit www.enidpublicschools.org/ehsaddition.
