CSRHC Names Curator of Collections

ENID, OK - The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is pleased to announce that Sarah Owens has been selected as the new Curator of Collections, for the Heritage Center. The position of Curator as well as most of the other professional staff positions at the Heritage Center are state funded positions through the Oklahoma Historical Society.

Sarah started as a volunteer intern in 2012, and then worked her way to part-time then full-time as the Museum Specialist. She has worked in the Education Department and the Collections Department at the Heritage Center during that time. Most recently Sarah curated the “75th Anniversary of Vance Air Force Base” exhibit and the “150th Anniversary of the Chisholm Trail” exhibit.

While working at the Heritage Center, Owens earned her Bachelor of Arts in History in 2013 and her Master of Arts in American Studies in 2015, both from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. Owens graduated with honors and is a member of Phi Alpha Theta.

Owens is the published author of “The Filibuster in the United States Senate,” in the Civitas: The Journal of Citizenship Studies. She was a presenter on the same subject at the Tenth International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences in Split, Croatia.

“Sarah came to the Heritage Center with the dream of one day making museum work her career field. She has worked really hard through the years to increase her knowledge and hone her skills and expertise in her chosen field. We are thrilled that she has been selected as Curator of Collections. It is a well-deserved promotion and the Heritage Center will benefit greatly from having her here in that capacity,” said director, Andi Holland.
