CSRHC Chisholm Trail 150 Festival

Enid, Okla. — The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid will host a Chisholm Trail 150 Festival on Saturday, April 1, 2017, in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the grand ole cattle trail named after the fur trader and merchant, Jesse Chisholm.  The event is sponsored by Visit Enid and will take place in Humphrey Heritage Village from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.  Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for students and five years and under is free.

The event’s festivities will include lots of games, a cake walk, Cowboy tales and tricks, No Man’s Land beef jerky, pony rides, and square dancing from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the J. E. & L. E. Mabee Foundation Gallery.  At 1 p.m. in the Village Church, a special reenactment presentation will take place with Joseph McCoy, working to persuade cattle ranchers in Texas to trust him to drive their cattle up the Chisholm Trail to railways in Kansas.

Communities and attractions up and down the Chisholm Trail will be hosting celebrations on April 1 designated as the official kick-off to a season of celebrating the 150th Anniversary of one of the most famed spots in the American West, the Chisholm Trail.

Coming in May through September, a major exhibit on the history of the Chisholm Trail will be on display at the Heritage Center.  The Chisholm Trail 150 Exhibit has been researched and developed by the staff of the Heritage Center and the Oklahoma Historical Society.
