City To Purchase Family Dollar Property

ENID, OK - The Enid City Commission voted 6-0 to approve funds for the purchase of property at 116 W. Garriott and the lot next to it. They appropriated $535,000 to purchases the properties along with closing costs.

Family Dollar currently has a lease on the building that is located on the property. They have the option to extend their lease until 2032 in five year increments. The City of Enid will assume the lease and receive approximately $40,000 a year.

Commissioner Tammy Wilson pointed out that the purchase price was about half of what they thought they would be paying for the property originally. Mayor Shewey said, "Good point."

The City is purchasing the property to continue their creation of a green space located between Owen K. Garriott and Convention Hall. The green space will have grass, trees and a possible amphitheater one day.
