Motor vehicles purchased and registered in Oklahoma require an “excise tax” be paid when registering. This tax is not included in the purchase price of the vehicle unless it is negotiated with the dealer at time of purchase. It is a one time fee levied only on purchases of new or used vehicles. This tax equates to 3.25% of the purchase price of the vehicle and must be paid in full at time of registration. Military members must complete a U.S. Armed Forces Affidavit prior to registering a vehicle and this will reduce the cost of tags and title – it does not reduce the excise tax
