Christmas Tree Tim Is Retiring

ENID, OK - For about as long as I can remember, as a family, we have been purchasing our Christmas trees from Kopp Tree Stand on W. Garriott. The family tradition is to drive over after Thanksgiving and all decide on the best tree for our house.

I love how the tree stand reminds me of Charlie Brown going to pick out his Christmas tree at the local tree stand. We always have the girls pose in front of a few trees and snap the proverbial family photo.

Mr. Kopp is always the best at helping us get the tree we need. He cuts off the bottom and ties the tree to the roof of our car. Even though we only live a few blocks from the tree stand, it's always an adventure wondering if I'll go to fast and we'll all watch as the tree lands in front of an approaching car.

So far we've never lost a tree! We arrive at home and unload the tree from the top of our SUV. It always goes in front of the large glass window at our house. We stick it in the stand, adjust it right, then left, then right again. Once it's perfectly straight, we stand back with big cheesy grins on our faces.

We usually trim a few limbs and let the tree sit for a day or two while I get up enough energy to climb into the attic for the Christmas decoration unload. We've got a pretty good system of organizing everything in totes so it's not all that big of a job. It's mainly just the thought of climbing the pull down ladder into the freezing attic and carrying it all down.

There are always signals that let us know the holiday season is really here. Seeing the pumpkins at the Pumpkin Patch let's us know Halloween is upon us. But better yet, seeing the Kopp trees arrive at Thanksgiving really sends a signal that Christmas is just around the corner.

Kopp Forest Products pulls into town right before Thanksgiving. Tim Kopp starts selling Christmas trees the day after the holiday. To make the trip to Enid and get everything setup he misses Thanksgiving every year with his family. They do have a family tradition of making a conference call to Tim right before the Thanksgiving meal in which they all say grace.

Tim has been coming to Enid for the past 15 years after his family took over the tree stand from another company. This tree stand has been in Enid for 39 years! The Kopp family lives in Wisconsin.

Unfortunately this will be the last year for the Kopp family Christmas trees. They announced on their Facebook page that they will be retiring after this season.

The trees are still located next to Rainbow Sports on Garriott by the railroad tracks (across from Emmanuel). Open daily from 10:00am to 9:00pm.

Gosh the girls grew up too fast. Seems just the other day they were sitting on the floor with Hunter (their cousin) and giggling and laughing as they played Old Maid (or as Hunter calls it Old Navy). That always made the girls giggle even more. Or even younger when Chaney was stuck on Miss Kitty everything and both girls had purses full of their treasures to the point that the zipper almost popped. The little girls are so much like their dad, a real goofy character.

What a great little article! My uncle runs this tree lot and is gone every Thanksgiving to sell his trees here. We miss him greatly but he always makes time to call us before dinner. We put him on speaker and he is able to join us while we say Grace around the table. It is wonderful to know he is loved in Oklahoma as much as he is in Wisconsin. Merry Christmas to all!

This is so cool. Our grandson is stationed in Enid and his last name is Kopp. Not related though.
    Merry Christmas.

Hey Curtis and Ann, Thanks for the live trees story! I was born & raised 13 years in Enid and this site brings back good memories! You’re a “handsome” family!
