Boomer Statue Has A New Home

August 26, 2014

The Boomer statue has a new home. A majority of Enid city commissioners voted to place the life-size bronze statue of the Cherokee Strip Land Run rider in the Convention Hall plaza area where the Fireman's Sparky statue now sits.

A raised area has been created at the front the plaza where Boomer was placed. You can easily see him as you pull up on Independence. He now points north towards the area of town where the first land run office was.

An alternate plan was presented to put Boomer on the east side of the library. The city plans to eliminate that raised area to the east of the library and remove the brick wall replacing it with a gently sloping lawn down to sidewalk level. That plan was voted down.

The Boomer statue was sculpted by Harold T. Holden and commissioned by Oakwood National Bank as a gift to the citizens of Enid. Originally dedicated on June 6, 1987.
