There is a growing attentiveness to the needs of people who are distressed, lonely, sad, or scared at Christmas time, and increasing numbers of churches across the nation are recognizing this reality. In response, congregations are creating sacred space for people to get through dark times with a service called, “Blue Christmas.” Many congregations offer “Blue Christmas” worship services close to the date of the winter solstice, which is the darkest night of the year in the northern hemisphere.

“Blue Christmas” will include prayer, song, silence, intercessory prayer, and anointing with oil. The First Presbyterian Church is safe place to experience God’s presence, and they welcome people of faith from all traditions. Childcare will be provided.
