Betty Marie Pond Dense

The memorial service for Betty Marie Pond Dense will be 3:00PM Saturday, December 22, 2018 in the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Andrew Long will officiate.. A reception at the Church will follow for a time of remembrance. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Betty Marie Pond Dense, 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 7, 2018, after succumbing to complications from a massive stroke. She passed away while surrounded by all of her children and immediate family.

Betty was born to Marie and Clarence Pond in Mankato Minnesota, March 2, 1942. In 1954, her father sold the family business, retired, and they moved to Enid, OK. Betty attended Emerson Jr. High and graduated from Enid High School in 1960.

Betty graduated from The University of Oklahoma with a Pharmacy Degree, in 1964.

While at OU, Betty was an outstanding student and received many awards and honors during her time there. Some of these include: the Merck Award (pharmacy), Rho Chi Honor Society, “Big Woman on Campus”, Letzeiser Honor, “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities”, Alpha Lambda Delta, Tassels, Mortar Board, and Homecoming Queen finalist. In 1959, when taking the OU entrance exam, it was discovered that she scored the highest grade ever recorded at OU for that exam.

Betty was a devoted member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and served as President her senior year.

She also participated in the “Sooner Scandals”.

In 1964, Betty married Robert W. Dense and moved to Enid where she lived for over 40 years. In Enid, Betty enjoyed her PEO chapter (DB) and served in Junior Welfare League. Her favorite interests were needlepoint, knitting, bridge, tennis, reading and walking, hosting parties, and spending time with friends. She also spent countless hours supporting her husband and children with tennis tournaments, sports, plays, recitals, etc.

She is survived by her children: Paul Dense, his wife Marla and children Baden and Maggie Dense, of Littleton, CO.; Melissa Clark, husband Coleman and children Emmy, Elyce, Estelle, and Evelyn Clark, of Oklahoma City; Marcy Price, husband Brent and children Madison, Savannah, Elizabeth and William Price, of Enid; Molly Player, husband Weber and children Avery, and Wilson Player, of Enid; and the father of her children, Robert W. Dense, of Enid.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the good friends that knew and loved Betty and who share their love with the family during this time. They also wish to thank all of the wonderful and kind Hospice doctors, nurses, and attendants at Saint Francis Hospital (Tulsa), who were so gracious during her illness.

Betty’s wish was that memorials be made to SPCA International or the Marie Pond Scholarship Fund at Enid High School.
