Betty Jo Thurman

Funeral services for Betty Jo Thurman, 88 year-old Kremlin resident, will be 10:00am Monday, July 9, 2018 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Kremlin Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Betty was born October 16, 1929 in Medford, OK to Ben and Willie (Daniel) Guffey and passed away July 4, 2018 at Greenbrier Nursing Home in Enid, surrounded by family.

In 1947, Betty graduated from Kremlin High School. On October 13, 1950, she married E.J. Thurman in the Enid First United Methodist Parsonage. They moved to Caldwell, KS in 1953 but with the help of her father and E.J., the Thurman family built and moved into their forever home in Kremlin in 1958. E.J. passed in August, 1998.

Betty worked at Zaloudek Store then Zaloudek Elevator as well as Southwestern Bell. In 1969, she went to work full-time at Central National Bank and ended up staying there 25 years, retiring in 1994.

On October 24, 1943, she was baptized in the Kremlin Methodist Church. She was a member of United Methodist Women but also taught Sunday school in various Methodist Churches for over 35 years. She was treasurer of the Kremlin Cemetery Board and served on the Election Board for a number of years. Betty was known to be a remarkable seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, E.J.; son-in-law, Jon Fossett; great-grandson, Dax Atkinson; two sisters, twin brothers and an infant brother.

Betty is survived by children, Dennis Thurman and wife, Pat of Caldwell, KS; Ann Fossett of Enid; B.J. Thurman of Caldwell, KS; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought so much joy to her life.

Memorials can be given to Kremlin Cemetery or Kremlin Community United Methodist Church with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
