Someone To Watch Out For...

Enid's own Jacy Johnson (daughter of the ever famous Renee Shimanek Settlemires), will be performing this weekend! Jacy is a senior at Enid High School and plans to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University this fall.

She is involved in show choir at EHS, is on the principal's honor roll and was the 2009 May Fete Queen.

Jacy has traveled to Kansas City and Dallas with her mom the last two summers to audition for "American Idol."

She will participate in the Hennessey Hootenanny at 7 p.m., Saturday in the Hennessey Public Library Auditorium.

Head down and show her a little Enid support!

Another One Bites The Dust?

According to the signs, Enid will be losing a second major movie rental business in less than a year. BlockBuster Video on west Garriott, in front of Oakwood Mall, looks to be closing the doors on doing business in Enid. Hollywood Video closed up and left Enid several months ago.

And it's no wonder. I hear more and more people everyday talking about renting movies online and through services like Netflix. The Red Box rentals in front of McDonalds have also become very popular at $1 a rental.

Enid is left with two major movie rental locations, Hastings in Sunset Plaza and Family Video at Van Buren and Maine.

We've been online since 2005 and have posted over 1000 blog updates and 100's of Enid photo's! What more could you want? How about a fun, more exciting website!?

EnidBuzz.com is currently building a brand new version of it's old self. Our old blogging system will no longer be available in March so we are moving everything over to a more adventurous Wordpress system.

Please be patient as we begin the transition in a few weeks. We're sure you'll find the new website an important asset to the Enid community.

Watch for Enid Spay Day

The Enid SPCA is doing a SPAY Day Tuesday, February 23rd, to raise awareness and help the area in becoming a no-kill community. We have started a program called SNIP (Spay Neuter Immunize Pets) as a low cost assistance program for families with a total income under $40,000 per year. Enid has a pet overpopulation problem that can be greatly improved with responsible pet ownership.

Their website has information about the new program and a form to fill out for people interested in assistance. They are hoping to start out by participating in national SPAY Day, which is the last Tuesday of February each year, and continue on with days each month throughout the year to provide low cost spay and neuter assistance to the public. They are so excited about this new program and would love your help in spreading the word.

Jack the cat (pictured below) is currently available to adopt.

Well Enid, it's that time once again and I didn't want any of you to forget. It's Valentine's weekend! If you have not made plans or picked up a gift this would be a good time to do it. Valentine's is on Sunday so getting out on Friday or Saturday night might be the best plan of action.

Jewelry, flowers, candy and cards are the norm to give as gifts. If you have not ordered flowers yet you might have to pick them up yourself. A coffee or fruit basket would make a great alternative to sweet candy. Other great gift ideas include Kindles, iPods, GPS systems or a bottle of their favorite wine.

The restaurants will be crowded so plan ahead and make sure you know your movie times. Everyone have a great weekend and enjoy spending time with your sweetie!

LIBRARY CLOSED ON PRESIDENT'S DAY

The Public Library of Enid & Garfield County will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2009, for the Presidents' Day holiday.

Items can be returned to the library during closed hours in the Book Drop, located in the alley between the Library and the Post Office on the north side of the building.

Enid's Day To Vote

Today is the day to vote if you care about the current bond issues. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at your normal voting spots.

This is an Enid Public Schools bond issue. The vote is split into two questions, one for $98 million for construction and repairs of school buildings and the other $800,000 for transportation needs.

These construction projects will address the overcrowding problem in Enid's schools. It will also help repair many older schools that are falling apart. The construction is planned to be completed in 24-36 months.

It's your choice Enid. Your property taxes will increase about $12.02 for every $100 of property taxes paid.

What will you get with this bond issue? Here are a few benefits: Each school site in the district will be improved. A brand new Garfield Elementary School. A new west side elementary school.
Expansion at Waller Middle School to replace portables. Up to date technology for all schools. Instruments for music education. And new buses.

Get out and vote!

This Weekend Around Enid

This weekend marks First Friday in downtown Enid. Several establishments will be open late and you will find live music in a few locations.

The Sumner Winter Roundup bull riding competition will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center Pavilion. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the bulls start at 8 p.m. The event will include bull riding, novice bull riding, bareback riding and saddle bronc riding.

The OTCA Indoor Track & Field Games will also take place at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center on Friday and Saturday.

Don't forget! Please take time to vote in next Tuesday's school bond election. Bond issues require a 60% majority to pass. Every vote is important. This bond issue is designed to upgrade facilities, maintain small class sizes, improve safety features and expand technology for all EPS schools.
