ENID, Okla. - Everyone has been asking what is going into the Stonebridge retail center next to the Neighborhood Walmart at Chestnut and Cleveland. We can finally reveal that Dandy’s Donuts, Deli and Delights will be occupying the very west end of the complex. That location will allow the new business to have a drive thru window.

The reveal of the business came on May 9 at the awards ceremony for the 2016 Cherokee Strip Business Model Competition. Eight businesses submitted their business plan in the competition and winners were announced at a ceremony at the Enid Event Center.

I met with father and daughter, Bob Keiser and Darla Campbell, earlier this year to discuss marketing ideas. The new restaurant will be a family affair with Keiser and his wife Kathy helping run the business with their daughter Darla. Darla and her husband Andy have wanted to own a business for years and the location at Chestnut and Cleveland seemed to be a golden opportunity.

The couple is going to try to bring something new and fresh to Enid. They will be bringing in a donut expert to help give them advice on recipes and donut cooking techniques. They plan on having unique deli items and want to offer fast service for quick lunches. At this point they are considering being open 24 hours. They will be serving donuts, pastries, soups, sandwiches, gourmet coffee and gelato.

The business is off to a great start with their first place win in the Business Model Competition. The first place prize was $10,000. “The business classes [at Autry] helped us know how to do so many things and make changes we never would have thought of,” said Darla. “This money will help us as we try to open debt free.”

Second place in the competition was a tie between Blackjack Services and Freedom Defender Firearms. They each received $4,000. Blackjack Services is located in Fairview and provides roll off dumpster service in Northwest Oklahoma as well as roadside service, towing and weed control. Freedom Defender Firearms is a gun shop located in Garber. They sell firearms, accessories, and outdoor sporting equipment with a focus on service after the sale.

Fourth place went to Enid BMX, Inc. who also received the People’s Choice Award. Enid BMX, Inc. is a non-profit organization that will manage a new BMX track in south Enid with a focus on continuous youth development and achievement.
-
To be eligible for the competition, businesses had to be in the Enid and Northwest Oklahoma area and less than five years old. The competition consisted of three phases: submission of a business plan, a ten-minute presentation, and a third presentation in front of a judging panel. Judges were a diverse group of professionals with experience based in academics, investment, financial institutions, entrepreneurship and business. Funding for the competition is provided in combined effort by donors in the Enid Entrepreneur Leadership Series.

The Stonebridge Retail Center sits on a 16-acre commercial site that provides approximately 75,000 sq. ft. of multi-use tenants including the new 40,000 sq. ft. Wal-Mart Neighborhood grocery store. Other planned tenants will be a medical facility, the strip center for multiple stores including Dandy's Deli Donuts & Delights, T & C Meats specialty shop, office complex buildings, and hopefully a restaurant on the corner of Chestnut and Cleveland. All of the commercial area will have a homogenous Texas Hill Country exterior appearance.
