The New Population Estimates Are Out!
A recent article on KNID.com shows the numbers and it's not looking grand for Enid, America. Enid is slowly dropping in ranking for population and may continue that trend as we watch other cities explode in the state. Enid is going to need to work harder and more creatively to bring in more residents. Enid is the one town on the list that is not near OKC or Tulsa and does not have a major university or large military base. The latest estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show that Enid has grown in population by about 500 residents since last year. The increase marks the first time this decade that Enid's population has been above its total in 2000. However, Enid's ranking in the state fell one spot. It's now the tenth most populous city in Oklahoma, with Stillwater estimated to have a few hundred more residents. Since 2000, Stillwater's population increased by 8,358, or 21%, while Enid's population only went up by about 1%. Since 2000, both Stillwater and Moore have passed Enid in population. Muskogee is still about 7,000 people behind. All numbers based on 2008 estimates (just released) from the U.S. Census Bureau. Top 10 Oklahoma Cities by Population Estimates: 1. Oklahoma City - 551, 789 (up 1.2% since 2007) 2. Tulsa - 385,635 (up .5%) 3. Norman - 106,957 (up 1.3%) 4. Broken Arrow - 92,931 (up 2.6%) 5. Lawton - 90, 091 (down 1.7%) 6. Edmond - 79,559 (up 2.4%) 7. Midwest City - 56,394 (up .7%) 8. Moore - 52, 615 (up 3.2%) 9. Stillwater - 47,653 (up 1.4%) 10. Enid - 47, 396 (up 1.1%) Tuesday, January 05, 2010 |
