Enid's Day To Vote
Today is the day to vote if you care about the current bond issues. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at your normal voting spots.
This is an Enid Public Schools bond issue. The vote is split into two questions, one for $98 million for construction and repairs of school buildings and the other $800,000 for transportation needs.
These construction projects will address the overcrowding problem in Enid's schools. It will also help repair many older schools that are falling apart. The construction is planned to be completed in 24-36 months.
It's your choice Enid. Your property taxes will increase about $12.02 for every $100 of property taxes paid.
What will you get with this bond issue? Here are a few benefits: Each school site in the district will be improved. A brand new Garfield Elementary School. A new west side elementary school.
Expansion at Waller Middle School to replace portables. Up to date technology for all schools. Instruments for music education. And new buses.

I hope everyone votes YES for our students and for Enid's future!
I voted YES today. But, with reservation. I'm wondering why the City of Enid did not build any of these needs into their budgeting over the past decades? It seems to me that had there been better financial planning in the past than we would not have to have a bond issue.
I also voted yes but with the same concern. Why weren't these things being done little by little over the years so we wouldn't have had such a huge one time fix?
Come on Curt, you know, or should know, better than that. Schools are not allowed to use general operating funds for capital improvements. A capital improvement is pretty much any permanant structure. You can't save money to remodel a bathroom with operating funds the way you do with a private business. That is because the tax money they are given is supposed to pay for teachers, supplies and routine maintenance.
The reason why it is such a big number is because Enid has routinely FAILED to pass bond issues, while similar districts have continued to pass thiers. That is why our proepryt tax rate is one the lowest in the state. Sounds good, UNTIL you see the condition of our schools.
This is such a boon to Enid and I am overjoyed at what our district is going to look like in 3 years. For the first time I am actually excited to have my kid to to EPS.
Sad that the Easley's are geting the money to help re build the school. Matthew was the drunk driver who almost killed my daughter and is disabled for life. Hope your enjoying those tax paying $$ in your pocket. Please let someone else build the school!
