Bonnie and Clyde, The Enid Connection

Did you know that when the The Barrow's gang hid out in two tourist cabins in Great Bend, Kansas, they committed numerous robberies in Oklahoma to support Bonnie's medical needs and other financial needs of the gang?

On June 26, 1933, Clyde Barrow was in Enid and stole the car of Dr. Julian Fields while it was parked outside of the hospital. He was after a medical bag that was left in the car.

On July 7, 1933, while in Great Bend, Clyde and part of his gang traveled back to Enid, Oklahoma and robbed the National Guard Armory of weapons and ammunition. The Armory was then located on the campus of Philips University. Their stash of weapons was so large they didn't know what to do with them all.

Soon after that, they drove to the home of Pretty Boy Floyd in Salisaw, Oklahoma to see if a safehouse could be found for Bonnie's healing. However, they never made contact with Pretty Boy Floyd, and decided to keep Bonnie in Great Bend, Kansas.

Who'da thunk?

These binoculars were found in one of the cabins after a shootout with police. The Barrow's Gang escaped but left behind several clues. These were inscribed with the Enid armory name.

Watershed Studios Now Open!

Watershed Studios

Local Recording Studio now open!
Watershed Recording and Production Studios in Enid, OK is officially opened its doors to the public Sept 28th, 2009. Studio Engineer/Producer and Owner Barry Johnston, has been working out of the studio for over 4 years.

"I built the studio in '05. I would bring in bands and projects that I really wanted to dig into and work with. I would find time between playing in a band and running the family business to work on the projects. I’ve had the opportunity to work on some really great stuff over the past 4 years. The word of mouth has been really great! I feel like the timing is right for the studio to make the next step. I’m really looking forward to opening up to the public and bringing more artists through the doors."

Johnston has been producing and recording records for the better part of 15 years. He's done work for the Alkaline Trio, Maritime, Weston, the Juliana theory, Jimmy Eat World, The Promise Ring…and many more. During 8 of those years he split his time between doing studio work and working on the road touring as a Front of House Engineer and Tour Manager for many notable acts.

With that experience and with the use of cutting edge recording techniques and equipment, Watershed Studios provides a creative comfortable environment for bands and/or artists to create and see their visions through.

Get the "Smartest Card" at the Library

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and the Public Library of Enid & Garfield County wants to make sure that everyone in our community, especially every child, has the smartest card of all - a library card. The library will begin issuing new library cards in September, and for the whole month anyone can trade in their old card for FREE and get a new card and keytag combo with a picture of the library on the front. Many people like the convenience of having their library card attached to their key ring, so they always have it with them.

Getting a library card is easy. Anyone, regardless of place of residence, can obtain a library card by presenting a picture ID and a form of identification that shows your name and current address. Parents/guardians must show this proof of ID and address on behalf of kids under 18 years old. If your picture ID does not have your current address, please also bring something that shows your current mailing address.

To kick off our month-long celebration of library cards, the library will be participating in First Fridays in downtown Enid by extending their hours until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4th. The event will include a showing of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, a Basic Jewelry Making: Earrings class for adults, and the opportunity for patrons to participate in an exciting scavenger hunt around the library for prizes, including a grand prize of $100.00.
