Rumors, Rumors, Rumors
Don't you just love juicy rumors? Rumors are just exactly that, rumors. While some are fun to spread and seem to grow in exaggeration, others are a little bothersome and need to be investigated.
We at Enid Buzz are always up for a good rumor. I only post this story because I have heard it from multiple sources and some seem to think there might be a wee bit of a cover up going on. Whether this is true or not I don't know. I won't use names, places or other solid information that I have. If you have proof of this story please let us know. Please do not use names unless you actually saw this incident.
Here's how the story goes: It seems as though a male anesthesiologist at a local hospital became irritated by a male nurse anesthetist. After a brief disagreement the doctor punched, and knocked out, the other male. A third male entered the situation and was headbutted by the doctor. According to rumor, the police were called and the patients that had been waiting for services were told to leave and return at a later date.
Fact or fiction? We don't know, but rumors like this don't usually spread the way this one has without there being something behind it. We only post it here for fun. Again, no names are being used. Please do not use names in the comment section if you do not have 100% proof of this story.
Another story a little birdie told us was that a certain smoking restaurant in town may have lost their lease and may looking for a new location. Any scoop here?
If you've seen Bigfoot or have been abducted by an alien we would also be interested in hearing your story.
And that's the Enid Buzz.

If the first were true, there woudl be a police report that would be pretty easy to get, with the names redacted, of course, by going to the police station.
As for the second, if it is Callahan's, I don't know if the lease has been lost, yet, but Continental and Callahan's each have their own issues with the other. One requirement of a new lease is said to be to go non-smoking, which they prefer not to do.
Either way, Continental will have no trouble filling the space, and wherever Callahan's goes, it will have to spend quite a bit of $ to make it as nice as it is now.
Callahan's is one of a very limited nice places in Enid to go. If they lose that building, I think they are in for some trouble as the character would be gone. The food is fine, but not great at a normal looking building. I wish Marilyn K's was still there, Continental seems to get rid of the good places to go for lunch.
Continental has nothing to do with Callahan's going smoke free...the state of OK does. Since Marilyn's closed, food business at Callahan's had picked up considerably, enough so that it now accounts for a higher percentage of total sales than the state allows to be considered a "bar". The percentage of food sales vs. alcohol sales is now high enough for Callahan's to be considered a restaurant like Chili's & Applebee's instead of a "bar". To stay in Continental South, they either have to A) limit food sales to return to bar status, or B) do construction & remodeling to create an enclosed smoking section, which is where Continental comes in. Callahan's thinks Continental should have to pay for it, and Continental thinks the opposite.
Thanks for the scoop! Sounds like Callahan's has a good problem. How bout they split the cost? Enid does not need to lose another good restaurant.
Or callahans rings up some french fries as "beers" and ring up some salads as "mixed drinks", everyone else in the world does that. Not saying it is totally legal, but with the stupid alcohol versus food laws, might as well work the system if you can.
No way either one of them are paying for a "restaraunt" smoking area. They would have to completely enclose the upstairs and have a seperate ventilation system.
And no way 50% of their gross sales is food (which would cause them to have to go non-smoking)
Contenental (Mr. Hamm) has wanted them to be non-smoking for some time.
They will figure it out.
How about everyone just quit smoking? ;-) Ok, I just had to stir the pot a little.
I'll agree with that! Think of how many more times you could eat out and how much better the food would taste if you gave up smoking.
I agree too. I hate the smell of smoke when I am eating in a restaurant. I agree that people should be able to smoke, but if you have someone else who does not like it, then eat outside and smoke outside.
Callahan's food is ok, I agree the atmosphere way exceeds food quality. As far as Marilyn K's goes I guess it was ok, but I was never wowed by it either. I think it is unfortunate that in Enid, we are so "restaurant challenged." We have an over abundance of fast food and very few places that offer great food, great atmosphere or an outside dining experience. If we could get some stuff downtown besides office type entities taking over all of the good spaces! Have always thought it would fantastic to take the old Newman's location(CDSA owns or leases or something) and turn it into a mini mall of shops and clubs and more Artsy businesses like Scribner's. Enid has to attract some people and businesses that are appealing to people so they might want to move or relocate here.
