OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - AT&T says it will add more than 30 new cell sites in Oklahoma this year and will launch its third-generation mobile broadband network in Ada, Ardmore, Enid and Muskogee.
Nationwide, AT&T will invest between $17 billion and $18 billion in 2009. The company declined Tuesday to disclose the size of its investment in Oklahoma. But the company says it invested more than $675 million in its Oklahoma network from 2006 to 2008.
Steve Gray, vice president and general manager for AT&T, says the company is constantly evaluating its network and performance in the state. Gray says investments in recent years have included switching offices and cell sites.
Last year, the company added almost 20 new cell sites in Oklahoma and launched its 3G network in Shawnee, Lawton and Bartlesville.

Many of you may be wondering what 3G technology is and why would you want it. 3G is third-generation (3G) coverage of wireless broadband capabilities. 3G makes surfing and downloading much faster.
For wireless laptop card customers, the top end of AT&T's typical 3G (third-generation) network downlink speed range has increased 20 percent and the top end of the uplink speed range has increased 50 percent. With download speeds of up to 1.7 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of up to 1.2 Mbps LaptopConnect customers can access large files and multimedia applications faster than ever before.
With 3G customers can not only surf the Web and download files faster than ever, but they can also experience the very latest interactive mobile applications, such as live video sharing and remote home monitoring.

That is awesome news. It is about time Enid got better internet 3G service, works good for the IPhone too.
Yes, I am glad. For those of us who do have iPhones it will be fabulous to get these speeds in our little town instead of only being able to take advantage of 3g in OKC!
