What Enid Needs...
I know Enid can be fickle and Enid lives on fast food and the good old buffet. But there are a few things that Enid has had in the past or could really use in the future. If done well, I repeat, if done well, I think these things could make it in Enid, America.
1. Ice Cream!! An ice cream shop that does not sell food.
2. Ski Rental!! Doesn't anyone ski anymore? Coats, gloves, argh!!
3. Sea Food Anyone? Can we not support a seafood restaurant?
4. Bakery/Pastry Shop. Good bread, pastries, croissants... hello?
5. Movie Theatre. A well run, reliable theatre, please!!
6. more to come...
I applaud Enid for supporting businesses like The Bike Shop, B Hip Kids, The Basket Case, CM Miller, Port Lugano, Cliff's Camera Shop, Cafe Davinici, Maria Rae's and many other small, locally created companies. We need more!
What other businesses do you think Enid could use? Give an entrepreneur an idea and list your suggestions in the comment section below.
These are the types of places that people will drive miles to visit. People will go out of their way to find niche shops, specialty stores and experts in their field of business.
Talk to the Chamber, the City and the folks at the Business Incubator about starting your own business and let's make Enid the entrepreneurial capital of Oklahoma!

competition for health food. Yes, we have Piersons, but they are way to high on their prices.
more competition for Western wear, horse tack, and such. I miss Simpsons store.
more competition for hunters and sportsman needs.
Ski rental, really?
More local food choices, though I hear we might be getting a Sante Fe Cattle Company soon.
A good Seafood or Italian place would rock.
A good men's shop that carries trendy clothes and jeans (not buckle)
Totally agree on movie theater. That place is a mess.
Hey Robert,
Enid actually had at least three ski rental places all at one time.
A great little Ice Cream Parlor would be a great evening activity for the kids and family. Something unique and with character.
Also, like the bakery idea. What about a place that served breakfast on the weekends and had fresh breads, pastries and novelties desserts. I would most defintately enjoy a place like this.
It is a shame that there isn't more night life in the historic downtown area. There is a lot going on during the day, but getting people out and about in the evening would be awesome, especially the younger folks at the college and on base. There is a great atmosphere.
This is a hard one: Enid needs a place for teenagers to go rather than the Mall (some stores told kids under 18 they have to be out of the stores by 5pm now). Vance has a pretty successful teen center so Enid should be able to. Someone needs to do some research into what is needed and perhaps charge a membership fee plus charge for food and drinks. We have a several huge former grocery store bldgs that could be used. Come on someone, do this for the kids in Enid!
I remember when you could rent skis in Enid. Cross Court? On the movie theater question, does Carmike still run the theater in the mall? If so Enid is in desperate need of another theater. I used to work for that chain in college and they are, in a word, terrible.
