Thursday, October 30, 2008Brent Hajek in Hot Rod Magazine Local race car enthusiast Brent Hajek and a crew of thrill seekers stormed the Bonneville Salt Flats Speedway to break a land speed record. Brent, Danny Thompson and crew attempted the record in a 2008 E85 powered FR500C Ford Mustang. The FR500C was equipped with a 5.4L Ford GT block, heads and various performance parts from Ford Racing.Brent was the mastermind and financier of the project. Ford Motor Company supported the effort with parts, test facilities and engineering. The Ford Mustang was able to hit a top speed of 252.78 MPH once, but was unable to repeat that speed during this run. The crew is scheduled to return to the salt later this year! Hot Rod Magazine has done a cover story on the record in the December issue out now. Brent Hajek is a race car owner, driver and racing enthusiast. The Hajek Motorsports Museum is located in Ames, Oklahoma in the old Ames school building. Visit Brent's website for more photo's, videos and information.

Saturday, October 25, 2008Catching Up With Enid's Katie Mariah
Hit The Ground Running
Boredom is not something Katie Mariah wrestles with these days. Flashback a few months ago and Katie was working full time as an editor in El Reno, Oklahoma. In May of this year Katie decided to quit her job and pursue her music career full time. Although, music has been a part of Katie’s life since she was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Enid, Oklahoma, the past few months have seemed like a career.Since May, Katie has written a song for a commercial spot for Dallas coffee shop, Texas Roast and has had an acting role for a spot created by Artistry Marketing, a company that handles branding and marketing for churches. She has written a song for a new TV show pilot that spotlights the unique story behind some of the great pubs, bars and joints across the United States and has also written a song for and performed live at conferences for an incredible organization called Life That Wins. Katie and her management team have committed to diversify in to the areas she is passionate about and that utilizes her many strengths and talents. Along with singing and performing, Katie loves acting and writing. She has been writing songs for many years and is excited to be able to combine all of these loves to help build momentum and give her maximum exposure. She is currently working with a production company on a TV pilot that focuses on her journey as a performing artist. Katie shot her first music video and entered a contest for GAC TV where she held the first place position for four days straight in a several week competition that included over 1,000 entries. Katie has been playing coffee shops, delis and smaller venues during the week, while spending the weekends playing in larger venues including oprys and festivals. Katie has been invited to perform at private events along with fundraisers. Just this year, she has had multiple performances in Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri. Along with designing an incredible web presence, blogging on an almost daily basis, preparing for her second music video, Katie still finds time to spend with her husband, her dog and the rest of her family. She enjoys attending Oklahoma State University football games with friends and family and finds relaxation running in the fresh air of her beloved state, Oklahoma. Katie has just returned from Nashville where she has been recording her brand new CD produced by Cary Pierce. Her CD will be released in January. Katie is doing something different and is allowing her fans to watch one of her songs be developed from the writing stage to the full production. You can check this on her MySpace page at www.myspace.com/katiemariahmusic Community Flu Shots in Enid

Daycare Spotlight!!
We are a NON-PROFIT daycare and very proud of it! We have an amazing group of teachers and support personnel who keep the Children's Learning Center running like a fine-tuned (glittered and painted) machine! To prove how truly dedicated our staff is to the daycare, we do need to share that most (if not all) of the children's daily snacks are purchased by the teachers themselves. Would you please consider donating snacks to the daycare? Some parents contribute when they can, but we also provide childcare to many needy families in the community. Some of the kids are even living in the Crisis Center or Halfway House. Snacks the kids love include: Mum Mum's, Cheese puffs, Gerber strawberry puffs, Jello cups, Cookies, Fruit snacks, Cheese puffs, Crackers, Pop tarts So often the YWCA is known in the community for the Crisis Center program, but the Children's Learning Center deserves more KUDOS than we can say! They are helping instill important character traits of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Help us say "THANK YOU!" to the teachers! St. Mary's SANE Room Providing forensic exams and advocacy to victims of sexual assault The room is currently out of: -34D & 36D bras -Medium T-shirts -Medium pajama bottoms or sweat pants -Combs -Adult flip flops (items MUST be new) Halloween! Halloween! Have a leftover costume? We need a variety of Halloween costumes for children living in the Crisis Center and Halfway House. Don't worry about sizes, we try to keep a large stock for the next year. Gee what else do we need to make a GREAT Halloween for the kids... CANDY! CANDY! CANDY! CANDY! Even just ONE bag is wonderful! We're not picky - any candy is wonderful! Other Points of Interest: * The Crisis Center Current Needs List is attached! (updated monthly) * YWCA Newsletter comes out November 1st!
