PetSense Outlet is coming to Enid and will be located in Neilson Square.
PetSense Factory Direct Stores are a pet lovers' paradise. Founded in 2005 by Jim Dougherty, PetSense is rapidly growing throughout the country and is mainly located in rural markets. Jim Dougherty is no stranger to the pet industry. Jim founded the first national pet superstore chain in 1986, which changed the way pet owners shopped and cared for their pets. Today, Jim realizes there is a large void for pet lovers who live in rural markets. PetSense was founded to fill that void and provide the following products and services not available in other retailers: * Factory direct close out items: priced at outrageously low "Factory Close Out Prices" (while supplies last). * Over 5000 items available at everyday low "Factory Barkdown Prices". * Broadest selection of Dog & Cat supplies available in rural markets. * Friendly knowledgeable associates eager to assist every pet lover. Anyone remember seeing the singing cowboy, Gene Autry and his horse Champion, at the Convention Hall about 1946 or 1947 which was sponsored by the Enid Chamber of Commerce. Gene was used to large turnouts and was extremely upset at the size of the Enid audience and vowed never to return to Enid again. As far as I know he kept his word, and we have all somehow survived his absence. - Bob Kellet
Does anyone remember the disco located in the motel on South Van Buren around 1980-1981? The motel is gone but was located on the west side of the road. Can anyone name the motel and the disco? - Curtis D. Tucker Are there any old places, events or people you've been trying to remember? Let us know in the comment section below. Friday, July 25, 2008Thursday, July 24, 2008Wednesday, July 23, 2008Anyone Remember Kellets in Enid? (Updated)![]() ![]() Does anyone remember drinking an ice cold Kellets refreshing beverage? Let us know. Bob Kellet emailed us with little history on Kellets bottling... John Kellet operated the Orange Crush Bottling Company at 401 E. Elm St. in Enid from around 1935 until appx. 1955. The main brands bottled at the plant were Orange Crush, Squirt & Grapette, all of which had their own specific bottles. John wanted to expand into other flavors and to do this he had to use a generic bottle so he had the "Kellets" bottles made. Notice there was no flavor printed on the bottle so it could be used for root beer, strawberry, cream soda, etc. and the flavor was identified by the cap (called the crown in pop language). At one time there were five bottling companies in Enid, but the economies of scale set in and it was less expensive to bottle soft drinks in one location and truck them to various distribution areas in the state which led to the demise of the local plants. As for the naming of Kellet Ball Park, John was a member of the City Commission for eight years and was instrumental in getting other commissioners to see the need for a ball facility for the youth of the area. He had served as the State Semi-Pro Baseball Commissioner for many years and after Buffalo Ball Park (I think that was the name) out on Lahoma Rd. closed, he saw a definite need for a first class ball facility and kept proposing it at commission meetings year after year until it finally passed. A fellow commissioner, Bryson Berry, proposed naming it Kellet Park saying it would not have been built except for the persistence of John Kellet. And the rest, as they say, is history. Bob Kellet Tuesday, July 22, 2008Friday, July 18, 2008Wednesday, July 16, 2008Rotten Neighbors In Enid![]() (Home for sale on West Broadway. High grass, overgrown bushes, broken windows, broken railing, losing paint...) Time for an Enid Buzz Rant... Seems like there's a lot of talk about trashy neighbors and cleaning up Enid. I'm not exactly sure what the controversy is about. Why would anyone not want a clean neighborhood and a better looking Enid? Oh, I forgot, there are those folks in Enid like my ex-neighbors from several years back. Let's see, we lived next door to each other in a very west side addition with nice homes and clean yards. These neighbors, not poor, were dirty, stinkin, nasty people. That's it. They just didn't care one iota about being clean, looking good or what anyone else thought. Sure it's a free country but not when your nasty habits affect my life. You see, these neighbors had six dogs. They kept three very large dogs in the bag yard. They went one summer without ever cutting the backyard grass. These dogs only had a path around the edges of the fence to walk. The swing set was buried in grass and their daughter could not have used a machete to find her way through even if she had wanted to. They also kept three little dogs inside their very stinky house. Because of the dogs in back they erected a wire fence in the front yard right next to our bedroom window. Needles to say, every time they would let these yapping banshee's outside at 5:30 a.m. they would wake us up. They only mowed their front yard about once every six weeks. We actually had a neighbor across the street mow their lawn one day because he was tired of looking at the knee high grass. Now why should I care about lazy slobs like this? Because their nasty, uncivilized behavior caused our yard to become infested with fleas, ticks and mice. Their screeching dogs woke us up nearly every morning. Calling the city didn't help much because the dogs had to be outside screeching for them to get ticketed and the dogs normally stayed inside the pee infested house. Did we invite many people over to our house? No. Did we enjoy coming home and making our yard look good? No. Did we move out of the neighborhood as quick as we could? YES! Listen, if you want to complain that it is your right to live like a pig that's fine. Just don't do it next to my house. You all find a nice rat infested neighborhood, park your cars in the yard and move in together. I found a great site to help Enid with it's trashy people problem. If your neighbor is a lazy slob report them to this site. If you are looking for a place to live check out the site and avoid the areas with the "problem" citizens. This site also gives the location of sex offenders. Visit RottenNeighbor.com and start reporting those nasty neighbors today! Please leave your comments and SOLUTIONS below...
