Where'd That Come From? - Update!
Update!!
Commissioners voted to remove a stop sign recently erected for the eastbound lane of Randolph at the intersection with Johnson. The city was catching heat for throwing up the sign without any warning.

Wake up Enid!! You now have a new stop sign in town.
The City of Enid has added a stop sign in one of the oddest places I could ever think of. That really weird intersection at Randolph and Johnson where the railroad tracks are. It has been a three way stop for years but a new stop sign has been added, without much warning, for the eastbound traffic on Randolph.
I'm not sure a new stop sign is what that intersection needed. Especially since the city closed Cherokee and Maine to through traffic at the railroad tracks. It gets harder and harder getting around this town. Pretty soon they'll be a stop sign on EVERY corner. Were there a large number of collisions? What do you think?
And while we are on useless traffic stops, can we remove the light on west Garriott in front of the old Wal Mart? What a colossal waste of time. There's no sense in trying to get food from Wendy's because you never get home with warm fries.

Yes, we needed that stop sign. If you are turning east from Johnson it takes forever to get on Randolph because the traffic on Randolph going East wouldn't let you in. Plus they are traveling at 60 miles an hour in a 30 mile zone. If they would slow down and take turns and let people in they wouldn't have needed to put that stop sign in. The traffic going to and from Waller is awful. Too bad the widening of Randolph wasn't passed. With saving the center between Randolph and James, where is the city getting that mess cleaned up? That is a real pitiful looking bunch of garbage.
The city did the same thing at the corner of Hoover and Maine. They put a stop sign up for southbound traffic with absolutely NO advanced warning, and the Police Dept. put a car halfway down the block to catch people who ran the stop sign. How classless can you get? The city obviously doesn't think much of it's citizens.
I overheard someone saying that, Enid is a 'two horse, overgrown farm town, and the so called city government wants it to be a big city like T-town.'
I totally agree on the stoplights on Garriott and especially that one.
I think there was a wreck from someone running the new sign this week. I was in a car that ran it yesterday too, as we saw it way too late. Wonder who complained to get it put up?
That sign is totally unnecessary. There is not enough traffic on Johnson to warrant a 4 way stop. The solution should be to remove BOTH east and WEST bound stop signs from Randolph/James. This would allow east/west traffic to flow smoothly and avoid confusion for folks turning left off Randolph onto Johnson.
I'm from out-of-Enid and I saw the big red STOP sign and I stopped. The Enid whiners think there needs to be big flashing lights. If they can't see the big red STOP sign, then maybe they shouldn't be driving, period.
Yeah, for people that travel at 40 miles an hour 2 times a day, for the past several years, we should automatically see it...hmmm brilliant.
Seems the city commission has gotten quite a few complaints about the stop sign and plan to review its placement at tonight's meeting.
I really wish that they had stuck with the original decision to have the sign it made getting through that intersection so much faster and easier for us in the mornings and I can deal with the extra 2 minutes on the way back in the evening.
Why should 3 other ways have to wait for Eastbound traffic up to 15-20 minutes to clear before crossing the street. Not to mention when you are at the stop sign facing north on Johnson it is nearly impossible to safely see what is coming on Randolph.
Not because of the church but the store is usually crowded around the pumps in the morning and afternoon.
Where else would you find a strange 3 way stop at a 4 way road? Not many places do that goofy of a street.
The lights on Owen K Garriott should really depend on if someone ever opens a business in the old Wal-Mart because tearing them out and putting new ones later would be a huge waste.
Maybe you could convience them to change them to blinking caution lights for Owen K Garriott and blinking red for the driveway side for at least part of the day or at night when it is not busy at all anyways.
