3. I miss the stores and crowds downtown, especially on Crazy Day.

5. I miss having my family get together for my birthday dinner in the round room at Richill's.
6. I miss collecting green stamps and getting to buy something cool at the Green Stamp Store.
7. I miss Wackers.
8. I miss hearing the jukebox at Ken's Pizza.
9. I miss the onion rings from Next Door on Garriott.
10. I miss buying comics from the pawn shops on West Maine.

12. I miss playing Asteroids at Putt-Putt.
13. I miss the paddle boats at Meadow Lake.

Wow! The memories came flooding back. I miss the same things.
I miss Enid.
Boy, Curtis...you are a soppy old thing aren't you?
I agree, though. It was a charmed childhood in those days in Enid. The onion rings at Next Door were the best (rivalled only by Wagon Wheel chicken-fried steak!). I remember when Kmart opened; I'd ride my bike over there with friends and eat chocolate pudding for lunch in the restaurant.
Great list! I miss Phillips University, the smell of Champlin Refinery (my husband always says 'the smell of money'), Three Towers house dressing, and, going WAY back - the Carnegie library.
I just miss Enid. I loved growing up there, and wish my children could have too!!
I miss the bullet at Meadowlake too.....
WOW i had forgotten about some of those great memories. I am sitting here bawling thinking about it. The bullet at meadowlake wow! And the old man jogging in the stocking cap. I was just telling my fiance about him the other day. I also remember Chances restaurant in the sunset plaza shopping center. We used to ride our bikes their and get french fries and share them with a big glob of ketchup squirted on a stack of napkins to dip our fries in. Then we would ride our bikes on to champlin pool to hang out for the day. We would get so dark by the end of the summer. Thanks for the memories!

Wackers!!!! Wow, blast from the past! Thanks for posting these thoughts. I wish sometimes we could freeze time for a bit. These things help me to remember a simple, carefree childhood where we felt safe. We could be miles away from home on our bikes with no cell phone and our parents didn't need to worry. We were ok and wouldn't be the victim of some predatory nutcase. I wish today's kids could experience the same safe feeling.
Mostly I miss getting in knife fights at the Cobra. I KEED I KEED!
One of the neatest things was to walk around the square shopping during the Christmas season. Also listening to the carols over the loud speaker and especially if it was snowing. If you have never lived in a town that had a square and you could shop there, you really missed out on a real American experience. You could stop in at Woolworth's and have a cup of hot chocolate or shop in the basements of Newman's, or Evan's. Anyone remember the Ham Loaf at Richill's? I even remember when it was called Don & Paul's Cafeteria and the Methodists used to rush from church to beat the Baptists to lunch. And here is one for you... dragging Van Buren and Maine from Van's to Dairy Maid 14 and back again a gillion times on 50 cents worth of gas!!!!!! Yes we'd collect a dime from each one and spend that on gas and have enough to ride all Saturday night and even some on Sunday.
I miss the beautiful & historic Garfield Carnegie Library on N. Independence Street; I remember being a child back in the early 60's and climbing up to the top of those what seemed to be HUGE stairs to enter the big double doors to a world of words! I was about 6 yrs old back then; and I would find the children's book section tucked into the NE corner of the library, with several wooden small tables & chairs! I can almost smell that old musty smell of the libarary even still today. The bldg. is long gone which is too bad, but oh - the memories are still like yesterday! I even remember getting my 1st readers pin which was a "Book Worm" and I was so proud!
