Enid's New Years Resolutions 2008
1. Prevent one more gas station from becoming a used car lot. 2. Lure a Panera Bread to town. 3. Formulate a creative plan to raise money for our local schools through investments, industry and other imaginative means. 4. Inspire every Enid citizen to volunteer at least one hour to a community service. 5. Develop a curriculum for our students that is better than the outdated public school system that will be the envy of the state. 6. Create a Community Partnership for Arts and Culture to showcase the talents of our artists, musicians, actors and writers. 7. Determine a niche industry and draw like minded companies to town which will make Enid the industry hub. 8. Continue to promote health and wellness with safe and updated tennis courts, walking trails, basketball courts, pools and bike routes. 9. Create Community Action Groups for each neighborhood to help police chase away crime and enforce city codes. 10. Track down and find the "City Fathers" and "Good Old Boys" that control the entire town and won't let anything happen without their approval.

Who Wants Their Kids To Be A Millionaire?
The other day I hopped on the treadmill in my garage and flipped the channel to Fox and Friends. I immediately recognized the face of the guest they were in the middle of interviewing. I had just met this Enid native a few months earlier and he was telling me about this new book he had written. I was really intrigued and had been waiting for the release of the book. It is now out and I thought I'd let everyone know about it. The guy from Enid that was on Fox and Friends that morning was none other than Troy Dunn. Troy is a self-made millionaire, a successful businessman, public speaker, and writer on the subject of financial success and personal happiness. For years his business was dedicated to reuniting separated friends and family, and Troy was considered for more than a decade one of the most frequently seen guest experts on national television (on over 400 TV shows including The Today Show, Good Morning America, The View and others). After thirteen years of building and running that company, Troy sold it for undisclosed millions, freeing him to focus on his passion for assisting other organizations. He now consults four corporate clients a year in motivating their own management teams in leadership, overcoming obstacles, team-building, and guerrilla marketing and in major media strategy and results. Troy married his high-school sweetheart, Jennifer, and together they are raising seven beautiful children, with six of them already running their own businesses. The book Troy was telling me about deals with the importance of teaching business success to your children. The book is called, “Young Bucks: How to Raise a Future Millionaire” (Thomas Nelson Publishing). The new book gives you practical templates for easy, kid-friendly businesses that you can present to your children so that they can start earning their own money quickly. Young Bucks includes chapters on age-appropriate, step-by-step action plans for you to help your children find and implement great money-making ideas. It also explains what schemes to avoid, how to spot business scams, why lotteries are a terrible place to put your money, why kids should invest in the stock market, and practical advice on the legal aspects of owning a business. The Pharmacy Shuffle
Enid lost a pharmacy, watched one switch ownership, saw another reach 110 years old and now welcomes another. It wasn't that long ago that Phillips Drug closed it's doors in the Indian Hills Shopping Center. But the empty space did not last long. Local residents now have a replacement pharmacy in the same location. Medic Health and Wellness Pharmacy is now open. Beginning hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The owners of Medic Pharmacy are from Shattuck and also have pharmacies in Laverne and Canadian, Texas. Jeff Janzen, former Phillips Drug pharmacist, will be managing pharmacist of the store. Scheffe Prescription Shops, 127 E. Randolph was sold to Willie Osborn, who owns pharmacies in Vinita and Miami. Evans Drug, 1110 West Willow, turned 110 years old and welcomed the arrival of Steve Hyden, a long time Scheffe employee now heading up Evans Home Health Equipment business. Evans continues to be family owned and run by local pharmacist Kyle Whitehead. And so goes the pharmacy shuffle.

The much talked about snow storm for Enid did not begin last night. Residents went to sleep with zero snow on the ground and visions of the snow storm, sleding, snowmen and snowball fights to come. As I awoke this morning at 6 a.m. I was disappointed to see that my dreams of the 9" dumping had not transpired. But, as luck would have it, the weather men were not completely wrong because the snow slowly began to drift over Enid. As the morning wore on there was a full assault on our sleepy little town and by 8 a.m. the snow was really coming down (see photo above). Will there be enough snow for all of the adventures that were talked about and dreamed about the night before? Only time will tell. For now, get out and enjoy what snow we are getting. Have a safe weekend everyone!
Local Band Needs YOU!!
Enid's hottest band, Philosopher Stone, is looking for a few great fans. They are quickly moving up the ranks of bands competing in the Bricktown Ballroom, Bodog Battle in Oklahoma City. The next round of their journey takes place on December 17th at the Bricktown Ballroom. Ticket sales are very important for this round! The band has 100 tickets to sell at $10 bucks a piece. Each band member is selling tickets or you can find them on the band's MySpace account listed below. They really need Enid to get out and support the band in front of the judges and help Philosopher Stone win the $1,000,000 contract! The top 2 bands will go on to the next round at the House of Blues in Dallas for a chance to tour the country on the reality show on FUSE! A 3rd band will go on to the next round as a 'wild card' which is decided by the number of online votes received the week after the show. Philosopher Stone will be playing a 30 minute set and there are 12 bands total. Band member s are Billy Beck-Lead Guitar ---- Curt Daugherty-Drums ---- David Keller-Guitar/Vox -- Martin Henry-Bass/Vox. Get out and hear some great music from a terrific Enid band. School Bonds Fail
It looks like Enid has decided they did not want want to pay 12 million dollars in higher property taxes in favor of improving Enid Public Schools. Voters leaned toward a yes vote on both bond issues but a 60 percent margin was needed for both to pass. Both issues failed by very small margins. The weather played a large factor in keeping most voters away from the polling places. How will Enid improve it's crumbling schools without raising taxes on somebody? School officials are looking for answers. What about a lottery?
Vote Today
Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. You will be voting on a 3.9 percent increase in your property taxes to fund $11.5 million in improvements to assorted Enid Public Schools and $600,000 in transportation needs.
Plans include the construction of a new Garfield Elementary School to replace the old school which was built in 1919. Enid has not built a new school since 1963.
Both of these questions must receive a 60 percent super majority vote to pass. So your vote does count!
Will more taxes equal better schools? It's up to you Enid.
Enid Ice 2007
Although Enid has not been hit as hard as Oklahoma City or nearly as hard as our last big ice storm, this one is beginning to take it's toll on the trees. Power lines in Enid continue to hold strong and most of the precipitation coming down is in the form of rain. Stay tuned for more winter pics.
Enid Schools Closed Tuesday
Enid Roads Are Slick
So far Enid has been spared the ice on the trees and power lines but the roads are covered with a sheet of ice. Side roads are very slick and have very little sand on them. The main roads like Garriott have been cleared and at this time are easily passable. Drive careful and stay tuned...
December Ice 2007
Enid went to sleep with a thin layer of ice falling and woke up with the entire city covered in a mixture of ice, sleet and snow. Roads are slick and more precipitation is expected.

Happy Hanukkah
Hanukkah, the “Festival of Lights,” starts on the 25 th day of the Jewish Calendar month of Kislev and lasts for eight days and nights. In 2007 Hanukkah begins at sundown on December 4. With blessings, games, and festive foods, Hanukkah commemorates the miracle of the oil. The lighting of the menorah, known in Hebrew as the hanukiya, is the most important Hanukkah tradition. A menorah is a candlestand with nine branches. Usually eight candles—one for each day of Hanukkah—are of the same height, with a taller one in the middle, the shamash (“servant”), which is used to light the others. Each evening of Hanukkah, one more candle is lit, with a special blessing.
