A Zip, A Zap and A Zow!
Our little mention of our new online toy store last week brought us a little extra attention this week. Because of the toy scare from Chinese made products, parents are looking for alternatives to the average, mundane toy selection. That led us to create ZipZapZow!, an online toy hub full of fun, unique toys that are normally not found in every mall and every mart. Our new site will bring hot tips on toys deals, toy recalls and where to find the most unique toys ever created. We'll also, from time to time, be selling some old vintage toys that we pick up here and there so keep a close watch for things you won't find just anywhere. The mention of the new site on this blog caught the attention of the Daily Oklahoman and we were interviewed and included in a story on toy alternatives. Read more about our store and other Oklahoma toy stores in today's article... Daily Oklahoman Article.
The Trees Have Arrived!!
A great family tradition we have grown to love is the visit to the outdoor Christmas tree stand on west Garriott next to the railroad tracks. The lights have been put up and the tree are ready to go. Much like the scene in a Charlie Brown Christmas, there are trees of every shape and size. The kids love to run around the trees until they find the perfect choice for our home. Strapping their chosen one to the top of the car is always a hoot and we all hold our breath hoping it doesn't fall off before we get home. No matter where you get your tree, start a family tradition of making it an event and your kids will enjoy it, appreciate it as they get older and will never forget it when they start their own holiday traditions.
Enid Lights Up the Plains Tonight
The official, official holiday season has begun! Enid will fire up the lights downtown this evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Santa Claus will kick off the festivities at 5:00 p.m. west of the gazebo on the Garfield County Court House lawn. Everyone is invited to get out and enjoy the fireworks, Santa Claus, carriage rides and Christmas music. A special Centennial fireworks display has been planned this year and several food vendors will be serving food on the lawn. Plan on wearing your heavy coat and gloves as the weather will be a cold 40 degrees. A perfect temperature for getting out all bundled up to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas holiday season.

What's Going On In Enid?
Enid Christian Bookstore has moved from Westgate shopping Center across the street to Sunset Plaza where the Gift Box was. The Gift Box is now downtown where Larry Blacks once was. Cafe Davinci, downtown, is rumored to be closing it's doors. But not to worry! Davinci's Coffee House on West Willow will remain open and continue to serve your favorite coffee. The new Farm Credit building looks to be complete and will be moving from across the street on West Garriott. The building sits on the spot where the two old white apartment complexes used to be. Northwest Foot and Ankle should be open soon. The new building is located on South Van Buren where Midas used to be. AmeriHost is now gone but Baymont Inn and Suites is here. Located on West Garriott behind Applebee's and Chili's. Now that tattooing is legal in Oklahoma, Enid has seen a crop of Tattoo shops. E-Town on West Garriott stays pretty busy. They are now in the old Door Step Diner location. Are you still with me? And Enid is soon to have another Chinese restaurant! The New China restaurant is nearing completion and should be open in just a few weeks. Sasu, 116 West Randolph, is closing their doors in downtown Enid. The clothing store has been closing out all merchandise. La Macarena on West Broadway, the old Safeway/City Boots, has changed it's name to Gordos. The new, original, Macarena has opened on West Garriott in the old Kettle/Sunshine Noodle location.
Shopping Weather Hits Enid
The temperatures have finally fallen in Enid. The high yesterday was around 80 while today we should be stuck in the 40's! Like they say, "If you don't like the weather in Oklahoma, wait a minute". The fantastic photo above was shot by photographer Wess Gray. You are enjoying the front view of his downtown Enid studio. This is the one area of Enid that reminds me of The Plaza in Kansas City. If you get a chance, walk around downtown Enid and shop the many stores that are now open. Take a quick trip down Maple to see this great view while your there. I would like to thank the Grays for allowing me to steal this photo even though they didn't know it. Be sure to keep on eye on Wess' blog for the latest on what's happening at The Grays. Just click on the blog link on their website: www.wessgray.comAnd I'm not sure if there is still time but you might contact the Grays about doing your photo Christmas cards. Phone (580)233-8322
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
Watch tonight, Tuesday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. A fun family show to kick off the holidays. Watch as Charlie Brown wants to do something special for the gang. The dinner he arranges is a disaster when the caterers, Snoopy and Woodstock, prepare toast and popcorn as the main dish. Humiliated, it will take all of Marcie's persuasive powers to salvage the holiday for Charlie Brown.
Enid Without A Library
The Enid Library Board has voted that Enid will not return to the current library building located downtown on Maine any time soon, if ever. The Enid Public Library was heavily damaged by a storm in October. While performing the repair work, engineers ran into several other issues with the building, including structural problems and asbestos.
Another problem with the current building is that it is not in compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.
Is it time for Enid to build a larger, more modern library? Is it time for the library to be moved to a location with better parking?
Follow more discussion at the Enid City Commission Tuesday night. The commission meeting will be 6:30 p.m. at the city administration building, 401 W. Garriott.
