Tornado Season on the way!
Peak tornado season is still over a month away and yet we are beginning to see tornado's sprouting up around the state. Troy Goodwin took this picture Monday 3-26-07 at 5:02 pm. Troy spotted this funnel just south of the Farmland Nitrogen Plant, near Southgate Rd. There was another tail forming out of it, but it went back up into the wall cloud before Troy could get a picture of it. If you have any great weather pictures that you have taken personally and would like to share them, please send them to us! Tornado photograph copyright 2007 Troy GoodwinLabels: oklahoma, tornado
Clean Up Your Act...
Attention Enidites! It's time to clean up. The city is out to clean up the place and they are willing to help. The 2007 Centennial Cleanup Project is underway and the city will be moving from neighborhood to neighborhood picking up trash, limbs and other garbage. City officials, along with police, will also be giving out warnings and tickets to those that choose not to clean up their act. The city of Enid will be dishing out fines for broken down cars parked in the yard. Other codes will also be enforced including grass mowing and Residents can place trash to be picked up near the curb and the city will come by and haul it to the dump. The project will run through July 15th and will move across the city one zone at a time. Folks are already dragging out their garbage and setting it by the road. Take this opportunity to show pride in your yard and your neighborhood. For more information call 249-4027. Photographs courtesy Ann Tucker. Copyright 2007.
Breaking News! Bridge Out!
Taking a new turn.
Beware!! The two blocks of Van Buren in front of Taco Mayo and McDonalds has changed. The right lane near Taco Mayo now requires you to turn right only onto Broadway. The middle lane will now take you across the intersection to McDonalds. The left lane no longer takes you strainght into the left turn lane on Maine. There is now an actual left turn lane onto Maine in front of McDonalds. Got it?? Have fun driving!!
Waking up in a fog...
It's a bit foggy around Enid this morning.
Closing up Shop
A few more Enid businesses are closing their doors or have already closed their doors. Big Lots in Oakwood Mall will be closing due to corporate restructuring. Xccessorize Fashion Accessory Shoppe in Sunset Plaza is closing. Shiloh's Deli downtown has closed.
Got Insurance?
Sen. Patrick Anderson, R-Enid, won adoption of an amendment that would allow the seizing of a vehicle when a driver cannot show that they have insurance. His plan amends a section of law that now allows police to confiscate vehicles containing drugs. Motorists who fail to show proof of liability insurance during a traffic stop could see their vehicles headed for the auction block under a bill passed Monday by the Oklahoma Senate.
A law goes into effect next year to provide for instantly determining if a motorist has liability insurance. This would prevent problems for motorists that have insurance but are not carrying proof at the time of the stop.
New In Town
Aldi's on West Garriott, next to Sonic, is now open serving Enid with low priced generic groceries. The Shoe Dept. located behind Wendy's on Garriott and Garland is nearing completion.
Good Eats
We made it over to the new bar and grill in town, in Heritage Hills, and had a very nice family meal. Mickey's is now open and serving up some good eats. The atmosphere was simple but inviting and the staff was awesome. We sat ourselves and quickly received a one page double sided menu. You can choose from a nice selection of appetizers, including gravy fries and a good choice of beers. Although the menu selection is not the size of the Cheesecake Factory, it does have a very nice variety of selections. Food items range from burgers, sandwiches and chicken fried steak all the way to shrimp and pot roast. They also have an excellent childrens menu to color on with large kid size portions. Sit at the bar and enjoy TV or sit at one of their booths. Either way, the food was great, the service was fantastic and it was well worth the money. Not overly priced. We fed a family of four for $23!
Someone You Should Know - Jack Quirk
Jack Quirk owns KJ Productions, an award winning video production business. KJ produces high definition videos, TV commercials and also helps create marketing materials for a wide variety of companies. Jack began his career in video as a youngster tagging along with his father to local and national news events. As the son of NBC news photographer, John Quirk, Jack gained valuable experience in camera techniques and visual story telling. He went on to work for an NBC affiliate on the east coast before establishing his own business. As event planner and videographer for a highly successful real estate auction house, he was responsible for all areas of media preparation for multimillion dollar contracts with private and government agencies. Jack left the real estate industry to expand his skills and talents in video, and thereby established KJ Productions. In addition to contract projects, he does freelance work for CNN and a local ABC affiliate, and his footage has aired on national television news several times, including coverage of reaction to the Terry Nichols trial verdict. He is also a storm chaser for KOCO in Oklahoma City. Jack has big dreams of establishing a Disney like campus in Enid one day that would house videographers, writers, graphic designers and animators, all in one central location. Jack has a new web site coming soon that will have more information about his services. KJProductions.TV.
