A Fox in the Goose House?
Here are the geese coming in under a Vance jet. Click on the photo for a larger view.

The geese coming in for a landing underneath the Vance planes.

There are hundreds if not thousands of the geese in the field. Can you spot the odd man out in this photo?

Anyone For Some Jazz?

The Jazz Orgy, a great jazz band from Wisconsin is on the lookout for a place to play in Enid, Oklahoma.
Piano guru, Mark Martin says the band is looking for a club-type venue in Enid. The specific dates that they have open are Thursday, February 8th and Wednesday, February 21st.
Their tour route is one that they have been traveling for a few years. A few years ago they stopped to hang out in downtown Enid for an afternoon and they have wanted to play here ever since. They do well in nearly any venue that has regular live music. They also promote as well as they can, despite being from Wisconsin.
Their web site is loaded with information about their current gigs and it also has some recordings. Please check it out: Jazzorgy.com
Help bring these guys to Enid. Contact Mark with any possible location.

You know you're getting old when...
You're asleep, but others worry that you're dead.Your back goes out more than you do.
You sing along with the elevator music.
Getting "lucky" means you found your car in the parking lot.
It takes twice as long - to look half as good.
Everything hurts, and what doesn't hurt - doesn't work.
You give up all your bad habits and still don't feel good.
You finally get your head together and your body starts falling apart.
You enjoy hearing about other people's operations.
People call at 9 pm. And ask, "Did I wake you?"
You answer a question with "Because I said so!"
You got cable for the weather channel.
You wake up looking like your driver's license picture.
It takes two tries to get up from the couch.
Happy hour is a nap.
You say something to your kids that your mother said to you.
It takes longer to rest than it did to get tired.
You turn 45!!!!
Enid Ice Storm 2007

The ice is falling in Enid. The roads are covered and things are a bit slippery. Luckily it is coming down as frozen sleet and not freezing rain. The trees and power lines around Enid should be fine after this first round. Round two and three are on the way this weekend.

Happy Birthday Elvis
My Visit To Graceland
I'm always on the lookout for ways to retire early in a very comfortable manner. I am 44 years old you know. I'm trying my hand at several different ventures and have even tried the "Planets Largest Garage Sale", as I call it, - eBay. I've sold a few items here and there and made a little money. I actually found an old metal toy car in the garage of a house I was renting, placed it on eBay and made well over $100!
That got me to thinking about the time I went to Graceland - Elvis' house. I would not recommend this, but while there I couldn't resist trying to find a tiny momento of the King. There were signs posted and cameras watching every step so it wasn't like I could just nab a book or something from his library. I would have taken a light bulb from a lamp if I could have reached one. Everything was kept pretty much away from arms reach.
The tour was nearing it's end inside house and I knew my chances were running out. That's when I saw it. It was the most beautiful, greenest, lushest shag carpet I had ever seen! It was like there was a mile of it covering the famous jungle room. I'll have you know that green is my favorite color and I wanted some of that green shag carpet!
Although there was a rope keeping me away from my lush, green pasture I quickly noticed that the carpet actually went up the walls! Wow! What luck. As we exited the jungle room area, I did snag one single strand of green shag carpet from a wall near the jungle room. There I admitted it and now I feel much better.
What does this have to do with eBay, pop culture and my retirement? Well, one of these days that carpet is going to get burned, flooded, worn out or something and when it does, who's gonna have the last strand of jungle room green shag carpet in mint condition? Yep, you can start getting your bids in now if you are interested in my single strand of Elvis' green shag carpet. For all I know Elvis may have brushed up against this strand and gotten DNA all over it. Who knows? So anyway, when I'm ready to retire early one of these days, I'm gonna pull out that old strand of green shag carpet and put it on eBay. Thanks Elvis, it's not a pink Cadillac, but at least it's green.
Where do I keep my tiny treasure? In a box next to the piece of shingle I snagged from Earnest Hemingway's upstairs studio in Key West, Florida.

Good-Bye Twin!!
I remember seeing some great old movies at the Twin during my junior high and high school days. We'd watch a great movie and head across the street to eat pizza at Pizz Inn.
I can't say that I am sorry to see the Twin shut down though. We were looking for a movie to see just last weekend and I refused to see anything at the Twin even though it had the movie I wanted to see. There were few times I visited the Twin in the last few years that something didn't go wrong. From wrong movie times, to broken film, no heat in the winter, bad sound and many other problems to numorous to list.
I say good-bye to the Twin, we had many good years together. I'll miss the memories from years ago but I won't miss the mess you have slowly become.
The End.
P.S. Here's my rant about the Twin just one year ago. RANT
