Steam Locomotive in Enid

The Union Pacific Railroad is helping celebrate Oklahoma’s Centennial by bringing a historic steam locomotive to Enid. Locomotive No. 844 was the last steam locomotive delivered to the railroad in 1944.
The train arrived in Enid on Sunday and will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the old depot south of Garriott between Grand and 2nd streets. The No. 844 locomotive will pull the Sooner Rocket consisting of 11 rail cars through communities in west central Oklahoma.
The train will leave Enid at 9 a.m. Tuesday and will travel to Hennessey, Kingfisher, El Reno and will eventually end up in Texas. It will eventually return to Enid on September 17.
Thanks to Kelly Tompkins for the great pictures. Kelly and her husband Ty run several websites including Enid Neighborhoods.

It would have been nice to have been able to see this up close. As we were leaving town we saw it from Garriot. A little more advertisement concerning coming attractions ect., would go a long way.
As EnidBuzz finds events we post the event on the calendar (see home page category called Calendar/Events). We hope people will check the upcoming events each month. We are limited on finding these events unless people email and let us know plus a couple of other sources. We try to keep Enid informed so check our calendar and thanks for surfing EnidBuzz.
