Girl Power!!
The Enid YWCA is planning a ‘Girl Power’ event!
The YWCA will hold its annual Girl Power Rally on Sat., Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cherokee Strip Conference Center. The event is open to all girls in fourth through seventh grade.
The theme for this year’s rally is “Leave Your Mask Behind and Be the Real You!” Rally participants can attend workshops with a variety of topics including music, bullying, health, and art. All participants will receive snacks, lunch, t-shirt and a goody bag.
Guest speaker for the rally is Melanie Willis, a first grade teacher at Coolidge Elementary and the current Mrs. Oklahoma City. Willis’ platform is “A Voice for Those Without,” which focuses on child abuse prevention and awareness.
“Every year I am truly amazed by the young women who attend the rally. When they first come in the doors they are little unsure about what to expect, but by the end of the day all the girls know each other and they don’t want to leave!,” said Dena Patterson, rally organizer and Children’s Services Director at the YWCA. “It is a very powerful event for young girls in our community to attend because many of them are facing new and important decisions that can affect the rest of their lives.”
Cost to attend the event is $10 and all registrations must be received by Sept. 27. Registration is open to all girls in fourth through seventh grade, and scholarships are available for those who qualify. Transportation to the rally is available upon request.
Donors for the event include Prevention Workz, United Way, OSU Extension Groups, YWCA Board of Directors, City of Enid, CDSA/OCCY, Patty Cake Daycare, Vance Officers Spouses Club, Integris Bass Baptist Health Center and other individuals in the community
Registration forms can be picked up at the YWCA at 525 S. Quincy. For more information, call (580) 234-7581.
