Centennial Cattle Drive Coming to Enid
It's been 140 years since the first big cattle drives came across Oklahoma. To mark the anniversary the Centennial Cattle Drive was put together and it will soon be coming through Enid. For the past 13 years the Oklahoma Centennial Chisholm Trail Cattle Drive Association has been planning a statewide cattle drive for the Oklahoma State Centennial. The original idea was to create an authentic project that would tell the rich history of the Chisholm Trail and its contribution to the state of Oklahoma.
On September 24th the drive is planning to be in Okarche. On September 25 they will be coming through Kingfisher about 4 p.m. and bedding down 2 miles north of town. September 26 they move on to Dover and bed down 3-4 miles north of town. As they move closer to Enid on September 27 they will drive through Hennessey and bed down at Bison.
On September 28th the cattle drive is scheduled to arrive in Enid at about 4 p.m. and will be bedding down at the Irwin Ranch at 42nd and Rupe. They will spend the weekend on a grass pasture 1/2 mile east of 42nd where Rupe dead ends west of Woodring field.
The cow camp will be open to visitors from 5-6 Friday, 10-4 on Saturday, and 2-3 on Sunday.
Visitors will have to park on the side of the road (no parking in the pasture). The cattle drive will be departing north on 42nd Street Monday morning at approximately 8:00 a.m. to travel to Kremlin.
