Got Insurance?
Sen. Patrick Anderson, R-Enid, won adoption of an amendment that would allow the seizing of a vehicle when a driver cannot show that they have insurance. His plan amends a section of law that now allows police to confiscate vehicles containing drugs.Motorists who fail to show proof of liability insurance during a traffic stop could see their vehicles headed for the auction block under a bill passed Monday by the Oklahoma Senate.
A law goes into effect next year to provide for instantly determining if a motorist has liability insurance. This would prevent problems for motorists that have insurance but are not carrying proof at the time of the stop.

I think this is a wonderful idea and I hope it can become a law that can be strictly enforced. Too many people without insurance have gotten by for too long and it's time they accept responsibility for driving a vehicle.
I think it has good points but I can see it getting out of hand if you have an over zealous officer stopping you. I can see forgetting to put the new card in the car and having your car impounded even though it's covered and you just didn't happen to have the card in the car. People in this town can't seem to ever see the grey - only the black and white.
