Happy Birthday Elvis
In honor of Elvis' birthday I'd like to recant a story of my visit to Graceland.
My Visit To Graceland
I'm always on the lookout for ways to retire early in a very comfortable manner. I am 44 years old you know. I'm trying my hand at several different ventures and have even tried the "Planets Largest Garage Sale", as I call it, - eBay. I've sold a few items here and there and made a little money. I actually found an old metal toy car in the garage of a house I was renting, placed it on eBay and made well over $100!
That got me to thinking about the time I went to Graceland - Elvis' house. I would not recommend this, but while there I couldn't resist trying to find a tiny momento of the King. There were signs posted and cameras watching every step so it wasn't like I could just nab a book or something from his library. I would have taken a light bulb from a lamp if I could have reached one. Everything was kept pretty much away from arms reach.
The tour was nearing it's end inside house and I knew my chances were running out. That's when I saw it. It was the most beautiful, greenest, lushest shag carpet I had ever seen! It was like there was a mile of it covering the famous jungle room. I'll have you know that green is my favorite color and I wanted some of that green shag carpet!
Although there was a rope keeping me away from my lush, green pasture I quickly noticed that the carpet actually went up the walls! Wow! What luck. As we exited the jungle room area, I did snag one single strand of green shag carpet from a wall near the jungle room. There I admitted it and now I feel much better.
What does this have to do with eBay, pop culture and my retirement? Well, one of these days that carpet is going to get burned, flooded, worn out or something and when it does, who's gonna have the last strand of jungle room green shag carpet in mint condition? Yep, you can start getting your bids in now if you are interested in my single strand of Elvis' green shag carpet. For all I know Elvis may have brushed up against this strand and gotten DNA all over it. Who knows?
So anyway, when I'm ready to retire early one of these days, I'm gonna pull out that old strand of green shag carpet and put it on eBay. Thanks Elvis, it's not a pink Cadillac, but at least it's green.
Where do I keep my tiny treasure? In a box next to the piece of shingle I snagged from Earnest Hemingway's upstairs studio in Key West, Florida.
