Running of the Rats!

The 4th Annual Running of the Rats will be held on Saturday, July 15th in Enid, OK. This local Poker Run benefits the Kyle "RatBoy" Traynor Scholarship Fund.

This annual poker run was conceived as a way to benefit the Kyle Traynor Memorial Scholarship Fund. Kyle "RatBoy" Traynor was killed with his friend Matt in a car wreck, June of '98. Kyle's family and friends started a memorial scholarship fund afterwards and award it to a deserving student who embodies The RatBoy's qualities.

The poker run consists of getting a map with five locations at which to stop. You hop on your motorsickle, go to the designated stops, draw a card from some very helpful individual, record the drawn card on your map's form, proceed and repeat. At the end, the forms are gathered and the winners are the ones with the best and worst hands.

If you like motorcycles, beer and bands you'll really enjoy this great fundraiser. For more info email the dude in the glasses at nopckl@aol.com.

Doors Closed

Rooster in Wine has closed their doors after 3 and a half years of serving Enid. We hate to see them go and would like to thank them for the great service and their always friendly atmosphere. You all will be missed.

This Just In...

Enid's original McDonalds, which has served many of us hundreds of burgers, is coming down today. It is actually coming down right now. You can still catch the main tear down if you drive by this Monday morning. Here are some early photos below. More photos to follow.

Don't worry! A brand new, shiny McDonalds will be built in it's place at Van Buren and Maine.

Head to the Lake - Meadowlake

After a recent vandalism, Meadowlake Miniature Golf on Van Buren is back and ready for action. The fun putt-putt style golf course is great for the entire family. Open nightly through the summer, you will find it a wonderful way to spend time outside with your family or date. Consessions are available. Cash only.

The Meadowlake amusement rides are also in operation nightly throughout the summer. Rides available include the carousel, kiddie cars and flying pedal planes.

And don't forget to create lasting memories by taking a family ride on the little red Kiwani Train, which circles both sides of park, crossing over two bridges and entering the legendary "troll" tunnel. The cost to ride the train is $1.50 per person (you won't find family fun any cheaper than that).

Visit your Meadowlake Park today!

South Van Buren

Think way, way back . . . further back. For the out-of-towners, think all the way back to the Trade Mart on South Van Buren. After many different transformations the big old building is now 81 Storage. A heated storage unit for boats, RV's and Mini's.

The parking area in front has been cleaned up and a bright, shiny car wash is now in place.

*Under Construction*

The Korean Church of Grace is building a $1.2 million church on South Van Buren. The church currently is located at 724 W. Randolph. The church will bring great improvements to South Van Buren and will feature a decorative pond with a waterfall. The parking area and some landscaping has been completed.

The United Methodist Retirement Community, now called The Commons, is well under way. They are creating a great retirement community including town homes, apartments, assisted living and health care.

The Bank of Kremlin is remodeling the previous State Farm Claim Center on Oakwood to become a full-service branch. The bank, actually located at 3901 LaMesa Drive, will have a drive-through along with an ATM.

This huge building is also being constructed on LaMesa Drive behind K-Mart. Does anyone have the "buzz" on this construction site?

Also watch for the Van Buren and Maine McDonalds to be torn down this summer. The 34 year old building will be bulldozed so that a brand new building can be constructed.

The Good Old Days

Remember the good old days when you and three friends would go to the drive-in movie and sneak two of you in the trunk? You would sit and watch those cheesy, cornball B-Movies while trying to hear the bad audio on the huge metal speaker hanging in your window. One of the best parts of the show was walking up to the consession stand trying to see who was making out in the cars around you.

I stopped by the old Enid drive-in near Van Buren today. Yep, it's still standing, but not in the exact shape it once was. Here is how it looks today.

This is the entry view coming in from Van Buren. The entry and exit are still there. The ticket house is long gone.A view from one of the front rows. The play area in front is well overgrown.

This is where the consession stand once was. There are still a few tiles pieces laying around but not much else.

The tops of each parking row has sprouted a bush or a tree. This is one of the lanes between rows. There are no poles or speakers left to be found.

Get Jazzed!!

It's that time again! Get jazzed and enjoy the beautiful weather. Main Street Enid is presenting the sixth annual Jazz On The Main, an awesome outdoor jazz festival featuring musicians from Enid and all around Oklahoma.

Slated to perform are the NOC Jazz Band, featuring trumpeter Doc Bryant; Tulsa’s Uptown Horns; Enid High School’s Alumni Jazz Band; Enid’s E-Town Rhythm Kings; 2 Guys and a Gal, featuring George Davis, Phil Hyde and Cathy Nulph; University of Central Oklahoma-bred Brian Gorrell and The Jazz Company; The Hot Club, channeling “gypsy” jazz from 1930s and 1940s; local guitarist Jim Nay; and The Jazz Daddies.

This fun outdoor event is free to the public and great for the entire family. You are encouraged to bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. Snacks and concessions will be available. Stay for a while or stay all day.

Children are invited and will have their own activities, hosted by Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse. Dogs are also invited and will be welcomed into select stores around town.

Everything takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 on the Garfield County Court House lawn.
