Memorial Day?

The Enid Cemetery

It's Memorial Weekend!! The unofficial start to summer. A big three day weekend. The day to open the pool. The running of the Indianapolis 500. Family picnics with your funky aunt and uncle. Heading to the lake. Buying cheesy polysilk flower wreaths. Wearing bermuda shorts and black socks. Stocking up on beer, ice and pork rinds. Firing up the grill. The release of a blockbuster movie. The end of the school year. Hot temperatures. Renting videos. Mowing the grass. Watering the lawn. And . . .

Oh Yeah . . . the commemoration of U.S. men and women who have died in military service to protect our freedoms. Try not to forget.

Outside Looking In.

Here's something you don't see everyday. The large windows in the Enid High School gymnasium have been removed and will be replaced. Does anyone remember playing dodge ball in the old gym?

Tattoo You!

You will now be able to get inked in Oklahoma! We became the last state in the union to make tattoos legal. Wow!

The new law takes effect November 1st. It allows anyone over 18 to be tattooed legally. The new law calls for sanitation and health guidelines for tattoo artists and parlors with periodic inspections by the Oklahoma Health Department.

The Tri-State Parade

It must have been Tri-State weekend. The weather was cold, cloudy and a bit rainy. But that didn't deter a very large crowd from spending Saturday morning watching a great ensemble of marching bands from across the country.

If you've ever lived in, or grew up in Enid there is one thing you always remember... the Tri-State Music Festival. Here's a few pics of the 2006 edition.

President Bush in Enid

President Bush stopped by Enid this morning. No, he wasn't here to see the Tri-State parade, he was on his way to OSU to give a graduation address. Air Force One snuck in over Waukomis and landed at Vance just before 9am.

The entire area around Vance was shut off by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, including all air space.

Many people lined the roads waiting to see a glimpse of Air Force One. People south of Vance were not disappointed but those at Kellet Ball Park and everyone north of Vance were unaware that the plane had even landed.

After giving a brief 9am presentation the President took off from Vance in a cluster of helicopters and headed for Stillwater. If you look closely you can see him waving from the third window from the front.

May 5th is one special day!!

It's May 5th and you know what that means!! A big party, celebrating, lots of drinks and food. Everyone getting together and giving gifts.

Did you know May 5th was such a special day? Heck, it's practically become a national holiday. Why not help celebrate?

Today is Cinco De Mayo, sure, but that's not the BIG holiday today. It's National Cartoonist Day!!! That's right, you should run right on down to your local store and pick up a bottle of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay or a big fat gift for your favorite local cartoonist. Hummm, wonder who that might be?

Anyways, Happy Cinco AND Cartoonist Day!!!!
