Sweet!
It was a 1974 Millie Miglia Red Chevy Convertible Corvette Stingray and boy was it SWEET! I was told this was my mid-life crisis car. Well, a few years and two kids later the car is gone but the memories are still there. If you're a Corvette lover this is your weekend! The 14th annual Corvettes of Enid Expo is set for Saturday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center. The Enid Corvette show is expected to bring about 150 Corvettes to the area and most likely a few more if you check the parking lot. Money from the Corvette Show will help the Youth and Family Services with a $1,000 donation for their building project. Plaques will be awarded for best in class, the best paint, best interior and best engine. Admission to the event is $3 for adults and $1 for children 12 years old or younger. More info about the club.

Trash Day!
It's trash day in my neighborhood today. As I drive around looking at all of the plastic trash bags sitting in front of everyone's houses I am reminded of trash pick up when I was a kid living in Enid. Back before they hired all of these sanitation engineers we used to have these guys called "garbage men" that would come by twice a week to pick up our garbage. These guys didn't have it easy let me tell you. They used to sneak in back of everyone's homes, driving in mud and trees and bushes, down narrow, bumpy alley's. When they would find a target ready to be picked up, it wasn't a 3 lb., white, plastic bag of fluff. No, these guys had to hoist a 50 lb. drum, with rusted bottom, over their heads and dump them into the garbage truck. There were no white, tidy plastic bags. There were wet, brown paper sacks or none at all! Those great old metal drums were the best during a competitive game of hide'n-go-seek. Let's see you try to hide inside one of those dainty, white trash bags today! Kudos go out to all of our sanitation workers!! We appreciate what you do.

Enid Makes National News
Well, have you heard the story about the two Einstein's from Enid? Seems like the rest of the nation has. Enid police arrested two men after dispatchers listened in on their plot to burn another person's vehicle. How did the Enid police know about the top secret plot? One of the criminals mistakenly called 9-1-1 on his cell phone. And not only did he call 9-1-1 but he left the phone on for almost four hours while the police listened as the men discussed setting the car on fire. Enid police Captain Jim Nivison said one of the suspects even says -- quote -- "I've got the lighter, Dude. Let's go."
Ghosts in the attic?
The first cemetery in Enid was started in 1897. The cemetery was created out of neccessity as new settlers had to bury their deceased but lacked an official cemetery. After the first person was buried it didn't take long before another was buried nearby in the area and thus the precedent to use the area as a cemetery was well established. There were more than 200 people buried in the early day cemetery before many, but not all of them, were moved to our present day cemetery.
Years later when the old unofficial cemetery was developed as a housing addition construction workers reported striking old caskets while excavating for foundations for new homes. Many families were unable to afford the cost of moving their relatives to the new cemetery, thus several graves remained in the area even as the large homes were being built. Where was this early day cemetery? It was located near the corner of South Van Buren and Wabash streets in what is now known as the Kisner Addition! SO, if you live in the area and you think you've heard ghosts in the attic . . . you just might be right.

A great day to visit the Enid Zoo!
Wow! It's March 1 and the temperature should reach over 80 degrees! I've got my shorts on and I'm ready to go out and enjoy the weather. Today would be the perfect day to take the kids to the Enid zoo. The Enid zoo? Yep, I remember spending a day or two at the Enid zoo when I was a youth. The zoo was located on east Garriott right where the Humphrey Heritage Village is today. The thing that sticks out in my mind the most about the zoo was the monkey pit located in the middle. I remember what seemed like dozens of little monkeys jumping, screaming and picking things off of each other. I can still see the dozens of funny red butts and envision throwing peanuts into the pit. (I don't think we were supposed to feed them) I really don't remember any other animals at the zoo. I think there might have been a lion at one time. Anyway, if Enid did still had a zoo it would be a great day to visit. If you remember the zoo and what animals were there please let us know. Also send in any pictures if you have any, we'd love to see them.
