A Great Christmas Story
Here's a heart warming story about a girl, the Internet and a guy that took a chance.
A few months ago a graphic designer in Nashville named Glenn Sweitzer accepted a new friend on his myspace account. Her name was Rachel Shay. Rachel was from a small town in Oklahoma called Enid. Glenn knows a bit about country music having designed album/CD covers for almost every top country artist singing today.
After hearing a song on her myspace account, Glenn knew Rachel had something special. Here's a little of the story in his own words:
Well, I will not go into the details on this, but let's say that Rachel had a pretty bad year. I learned about everything through Rachel's mom, who emailed me. Once I heard all the story's, I had a burning desire to do something for her. I first thought about calling the "Make A Wish Foundation", but decided to try to do it on my own.
I wanted to get Rachel into Nashville, to record some songs to just celebrate all she has made it through. I first called a good friend, Jim Reilley, to see if he would be interested in producing this little project of mine. He actually said yes, and also gave me a CD with 12 songs on it for Rachel to pick from. I then spoke with Vicky Hilliard from Athena Health Spa, to see if they can help with some things....like..YEA!! Not only did they provide full spa treatments, massages and nail jobs, but they worked out the hotel stay for 5 days at the Holiday Inn. I then spoke with Pam Tillis, and got 2 dinner Christmas Show tickets at the Opryland Hotel. After the show, Rachel and her sister Rhonda got to meet Pam. I then spoke with my buddy Dustin Bogue...he was amazing, and pulled together the musicians we would need to make the music.
Well, it all came together, Rachel and her sister spent 5 days here, and had a very busy schedule. AND... the last day they were here, we squeezed in a photoshoot and this music video shoot.
After all this, we have built a pretty amazing friendship. I am hoping to help her pursue her dream of music to the next level.
Through this whole situation, I was filming and documenting it, to make a mini-documentary in the near future. To complete this, I will be heading to her small town right before Christmas, where we are both being interviewed for the Oklahoma papers and radio. I just wanted to do a positive thing for somebody, and show that myspace is not all that bad! This has been the most amazing gift I have ever received.
Glenn has now been to Enid and has commented about it on his blog.
